Holly needs to tell jim to buy a generator and a large fuel tank if they are going to stay on the farm.

So the generator keeled over in a faint when Holly tried to operate it? Must have heard from the computers, modems, cell phones, microwaves etc about her way with appliances.

Hey.....I hope you guys are ok. We are hoping the natl guard can asst in clearing the roads aso we can at least get to our house for a few supplies. Right now it is not livable because of no heat, water, phone, or elec
tricity. Our animals are going to starve...including the cats. I szwear when this is over we are going to move to a civilized area....or not (smile). One good thing is I had no freakin choice b ut to learn to use hells cell. I almost sorta like it. Almost.

Holly, as sorry as I am to hear about your animals, I'm just glad you, Jim, and the LO are okay. Thank you for posting updates to let us know you're alright.

alrighbt ya wise asses....the generaTor is in the barn. I need the tractor to get there in all this snow. Problem is...the traCtor is in the barn with tghe generator. Damn this phone keypad isz tiny. And there would be no chance of getting the tractor through the snow even if it was closer to the houze.....too much of a risk of rolling it going up the hills.

You need one in the barn to operate the water pump for the animals and one next to the house hooked up to a few essential circuits; water, fridge, microwave and a couple of lights. And a snow blower next to the house.

Seriously, I hope you can get back and see to the animals. Or a neighboring farmer can.

Ever heard of skis? snow shoes? bobsled? dog sled? or maybe a generator next to the house? Fireplace would help keep house warm, and melted snow makes water... simple survival stuff.

Jeff...I did the simple survival stuff when it was just me. It is a whole different story when a child is depending on you. Jim was not home and I could not risk my safety to get the generator to the house. If something had happened to me, the loudone would have been in serious danger. I had no idea jim was going to do the impossible and make it home.

We are going to go back to the farm in the morning. Hopefully the roads are passable, but I can't even call a neighbor because the phones are down, so we may have an intresting walk to get there. But the animals will be fed tomorrow. The cows had new round bales on Friday night in preperation for the storm, and they have a running stream for water. The cats though, need food and water and lordie are they going to be pissed!

Well Holly, then I hope for all of you that the generator is working...otherwise you have the same problem as Richard has and it will stay cold and dark

Regarding Jeffs suggestion with skiis and sled...I agree, get some huskies for the future winters...with them you will be safe riding the roads and I am sure even your loudone will like it

Best wishes for your safe return and that the generator will work.

Ok folks....good night for everyone who might go to bed soon...I am logging off now and getting ready for uni...gosh am I pissed about my lack of knowledge but well...at least I know where I made the error and in worst case scenario I will have now 6 months time to get it proper into my head for the re-sit in august (though with the resit I can only get a D- as they don't give you any higher grades then the minimum to pass when you have to re-sit to avoid people failing for that purpose to get potentially better grades with doing it later again...but well...will wait and see...). At least its a topic where you can be creative to pull answers out of the head...just hope there will come something out after not having been in bed for 4 nights )

Lets wait and see how much I can pull out between my ears

The test itself is easy, just damn answers are so awful difficult...however, at least I get it out of the way now when I leave in an hour...one way or another

Holly, I'm glad that you guys are safe!  I hope that everyone else stuck in the snowy parts is too....I know I joke about the snow and stuff, but where I grew up, storms were the norm.  We'd lay in extra foodstuffs and things, and at least had snowmobiles, so that when the going got tough, we could still get going.  We'd never lose power like it seems everyone does now, and it certainly didn't take weeks to get it all back on!  Only once did it take that much time, and that was after an ice storm, not a snowstorm!  Our power companies were pretty good about keeping trees and stuff away from the lines, even if it pissed folks off when they'd come through and mangle, I mean, trim the trees.

I hope ya'll stay warm and safe....and don't be foolish and try to go outside too soon...if the powers that be are telling you to stay home, then by all means, LISTEN to them!  Emergency services folks are going to have enough to keep up with the true emergencies....having to go save idjits who were just too dumb to listen is just an added strain on their resources.  Consider the preceding today's public service message.......

Holly, I recommend a bunch of catnip for the mob of cats.  Scatter some before you feed them and they should been in heaven while you get their food ready.

I remember having a rope up to the barn when we had blizzards (yes, Panhandle TX did get blizzards) so we can feed the chickens and retrieve their eggs.  I also remember driving a standard truck at the age of 8 while Dad was in the bed of the truck, opening the sacks of feed for the cattle.

Good morning, all!!!!!!!!!!!!

We survived another night, although the staff here doesn't seem to think that knocking on the door in the middle of the night should wake me.  Duh!!  Granny got some IV antibiotics last night, so maybe she will start to feel better soon.  It's hard to see her so ill.  Hopefully she will at least take some fluids today.  I'm going to try to get to the store today for more food, since there's another storm coming tomorrow.

How's everybody else this gorgeous morning??
