ORIGINAL: DesFIP Phoenix, what breed? My mother in law used to breed dogs, always unusual breeds. Hi DesFIP my dog book which informs about 200 different breeds of dog led to interest in the hovawart breed... http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/hovawart.htm but over here its incredible difficult to find a breeder (found 3) who then actually has any puppies at the moment or coming up....from the three I found one "might" breed towards the end of the year...and I am more looking for two dogs this summer/autumn, depends when I move on to rent a house once I got a job in my degree...(just planning ahead a bit right now). I like on them that they look like labradors...but their character is more like the one from german sheppherd and thats what I am looking for...a dog who gives people I don't want in my house, a hard time...not a golden retriever who makes friend with them... So seems have to stick to my plan towards german sheppherd and rottweiler or boxer again (rotteiler least likely, as I have a lil bit doubts to be dominant enough for that type of dog). However, it just frustrates me that this hovawart breed is so difficult to find in regards to a possibility to actually get them. Originally I wanted to go via rescue shelters but they are a pain in regards to not easily giving dogs to people who work fulltime...which of course I do....and whilst that is easier in animal shelters in Germany as there I just go there, pick my pet, pay and take it with me (which was another thought I had) from there it is a pain to get the pet into the UK as there certain tests nees to get done 6 months before taking the dog over...and needless to say, thats no option...can bother my parents with dogs for 6 months... therefore by now I only see the option of taking on puppies once I am able to move or an adult dog from someone who sells his or her dog...though taking on a dog from a private person is in my opinion a higher risk then one from the animal shelter where several people can get an impression about how the dog is....so I am likely to stick to get two puppies at the end and most likely german shepphers.
