as usual, Hollywood's non-pornography version of depicting someone involved in some form of BDSM lifestyle is of one who is deeply disturbed, mentally unstable, a danger to herself and others the moment a traumatic event happens---this time she is suicidal---last time she loses control and non-consensually whips the crap out of her daughter's killer.  pity, this slave hoped they would have done so much more/better with her character.

Yes, why do they need to portray someone who is obviously in the lifesyle with so much disdain?  Throughout this episode, the writers and producers obviously have their own prejudices.  If they would only monitor the responses by the BDSM community, they might get a sense of what they are really doing by writing and producing scripts like this.  Otherwise, they are just playing to the unsuspecting and unknowing audience, and adding to what is already suspect to most people who do not understand what the lifestyle is all about.  I imagine that the writers are, at the very least, disgruntled submissives who are lashing out at pro-dommes for the attention that they are obviously not getting from their own experiences.  Sort of like sour grapes (taste the wine, but it is not always tasteful to you).

I think there are 2 reasons why they depict them that way.

1) Because it arouses them and they feel guilty about it and want to try to make themselves look "better" than that.
2) Because viewers are mostly nuts. They don't want the truth, they want sterotypes that they can easily understand. They want something dramatic and can hold their attention.

Just my 2 cents.

ps The episode was a let down for me also. :( She was awesome the first time she was in the show, I guess they just had to take her down a peg. . . or 6

Hmmm... so I guess you are saying that no dominant will even feel depressed?  They have shown her as strong.  They have shown her as caring.  They showed her pain when her daughter was murdered.  They showed her snap at the way her only child was killed.  And.. *GASP* they dared to write in that she might be suffering from that!  Holeysmokes.  What could the writers have been thinking?  Shouldn't they do the right thing and let us all know that no dominant would ever lose control?
I think they did an excellent job, over all.  What do you know.. a dominant might actually be human and be vulnerable to some sorrows in life.

It's amazing how people can watch the same thing and come away with entirely different perceptions.  Aside from the fact that Mistress Heather has been portrayed to be a beautiful and successful woman who catches the attention of the show's "hero", there was this exchange about her in this particular episode:

"What is she like?"

"Beautiful.  Smart.  Intense.  Charming.  The only woman I've ever seen rattle Grissom."

*shrugs*  Doesn't sound disdainful to me.

Sure, they write her having drama in her life.  It is a dramatic show, after all.

what does being human and vulnerable have to do with portraying a Dominatrix as one who turns vigilante/suicidal as opposed to all the other options when faced with a traumatic life changing event?

not ALL vulnerable/depressed humans become a danger to themself and others.

this slave isn't saying there aren't vulnerable/depressed/vigilante/suicidal Dom's out there, just that it was very disappointing to see this ONE opportunity to portray someone involved in this lifestyle on a primetime drama show as a danger to themself and others as soon as a traumatic event occurs.

if Master allows this slave to go with Him when He visits the CSI set this fall, you can be sure this slave will be asking anyone willing to answer.

I must say I was very annoyed with the former stripper having an attitude about Gil being friends with a Dominatrix.  I had thought Willows, of all people, would be a bit less judgemental. Perhaps she's just pissy because she wants to be the one spanking him...

I'm sorry that I missed this episode.  I saw the first appearance of Lady Heather before I knew anything about the Lifestyle.  Recently I had the opportunity to see it in reruns, and I certainly understood things more...... like what in the hell is a dungeon????? lol

Creating the character of Lady Heather was a wonderful concept.
I enjoy seeing the lifestyle in some form on t.v.
Lady Heather has class and style, and shows us in a somewhat positive light.

Even though it is probably impossible to delve into a charcter's or character's relationship (s) on a one-hour TV show that doesn't always follow through with an ongoing theme for at least several episodes,  the writers and products seem to be doing well at making the Lady Heather character more human.  This is probably the first positive move that will help the BDSM community become more acceptable.

Because the show is so successful, I don't belive that the producers have much to loose, and probably more to gain by expanding the Lady Heather character, along with the growing relationship between her and Grissom.

The BDSM theme in late-night, prime-time programs has generally been written in as a teaser, because it is obvioulsy an  erotic subject, and people are curious and excited by it.   Producers of  programs such as  LA Law,  NYPD Blue, as well as some others, are always attempting to push the envelope (a very delicate balance between sexually-charged subject matter and what the sensors will allow).

If one is to believe that the media dictates the beliefs and the behavors of those who watch what they offer, then we are heading in positive direction with regard to more sexual freedom and candor, both in the media and in real life.

May 24 rerun had a BDSM theme as a subplot.
CSI  has had furry in the past, and I don't even watch the show much, how much have I missed?!

Most of the characters in the episode (especially Brass) seemed terribly judgemental.  *sigh*  Probably the same as real life for the most part.  Very sad story when it came to Lady Heather.  I find it interesting that Grissom seems so devoted to her.
Mistress Scarlet

and poor "Miss Sara"...what do you think her reaction was? I cannot read her well/

Oh ....poor Sara.....dear sweet poor sara....(Grissom really loves her.....unfortunately Heather is but a daliance) in my opinion

Lady Heather should have her own series.

Now there's a thought...

I mean, screw the "action" bits (no pun intended), she's bound to have a life. We all do. Just make hers interesting enough to watch.

Don't make a big deal out of the pro domme thing, just portray her like a real human with a dominant streak and some skills most people don't have (pretty good at reading people, IIRC, been a long time since I saw the first episode she was in).

A soap/drama might work. Spicing it up would probably be better.

Being a fan of fantastic stuff myself (I get enough "real" in the real world, why would I want to watch it through a screen when walking out the door gives me a better image, better sound, and other senses besides?), you could even dump something supernatural in there. Why do the Buffy/Charmed/etc. types have to be "squeaky-clean" conservative vanilla types in school or with a "popular" job?

Of course, the character Lady Heather is pretty much ruined by such an episode as this, unless there's a brilliant scriptwriter to pick up the pieces and weave that process into the first season, so the best bet would be to start from scratch with someone similar.

Sounds predictably human. I mean, many people try to get revenge, whether by beating someone up or by killing them. Why does she have to be perfect?

And a whip is a weapon, and an instrument for torture and corporeal punishment. The fact that it can be used for other purposes doesn't change that. A good single-tail will kill someone if you want it to, for instance.

Either way, from what you say, she didn't even kill him. That's a fair bit better than the "justice" system will be doing to him.

IMO, I believe that the producers and writers ARE attempting to "humanize" the Lady Heather character, and I think there's a good chance that the character will continue to evolve in future episodes, since the show has been picked up again for at least one more season.

Point. I haven't watched the episode yet, so I went by the feedback here. When I realized what was the case, I forgot to go back and edit. Mea culpa.

I hope you recorded it.  I forgot to set the machine and didn't know how much feedback there would be here.  Wish I could go back and watch it again.  Either it's available on their Website or I'll just have to wait for the rerun.

I'll have to wait for the DVD box. Our city is known as the "city between the seven mountains", so you can imagine what the reception is like without a dish.

And with a dish, the reception is too good, in the sense that no matter what packacke I pick, I'll end up wasting endless hours in front of the screen, watching programmes I would never have given a second thought if the TV wasn't already on. From experience, I know that my standards will then creep lower and lower, until I one day snap out of it, realize what I was looking at a second before, and subsequently progress to beat the dish to a pulp with my bare hands in order to preserve my sanity. Okay, not exactly, but almost. As the guy said, "After the first month, I didn't even miss TV anymore".

Buying the series on DVD is more expensive, but the time "bought" back from the TV is priceless.

It may not happen to everyone, but if your child is murdered, I don't think there's anything that's completly unreasonable.  The  loss of a child is one of the worst things that can possibly happen to a person.  Not everyone would react the same way, but I can't imagine anyone not losing it to some extent or another.  While revenge like that is illegal and may not be the correct way to go about it, it's not exactly the most outragious thing that someone would go after their child's murderer!  They show plenty of programs where parents go after their child's murder or rapist that have nothing to do with BDSM.. and plenty of cases in reality!

Mistress Jenny would like to know if you all would be so upset about it if she had just shot the killer or something rather than her revenge being so BDSM related?
