OK, so i was eating dinner and i aspirated a piece of corn. I actually felt it sucked down into my brochial tubes/lung??? I tried to cough it up but never felt it actually come out. The coughing continued for a while and it hurts just below my collar bone a little to the right. My chest felt tight, so i used my inhaler, and that helped a little. It's not that bad except when i talk, it feels like i am forcing it. All in my head? Do i wait and see what happens. I mean i am still breathing, obviously. It was just one kernal of corn. I tried looking this up, but didn't really find anything. Thanks for any experience etc...

Well if your breathing.. then it didn't end up in your lung and if it did.. its not going to affect you and shouldn't be worried about. I wouldn't let it bother you...

working for a pulmonary doctor my suggestion to you would be this..............go get it checked out.......it could be nothing but chances are he is gonna want to run some tests .......you should make an appointment.....call your reg physician first and get a referal to a good pulmonary doc in your area.......do it first thing in the a.m. edited It could be serious.....and a pulmonary doctor * just in case your not familiar with the termonolgy is a doctor that only treats lungs* will want to really check you out and make sure you are ok. Im not sure as i am not a physician...but i have worked for this type of doctor for 5yrs.......i STRONGLY suggest you take my advice

Drink, drink drink, and if you are still worried, call the hospital, they can xray and see if that corn is stil there, but you probabley strained yourself by coughing.

Do a search on aspirated food....it's more common than you think and can cause problems even in small amounts. Most commonly aspirated foods are peanuts, corn, carrots and fruits.

thanks jayded, i knew there would be someone here who has more experience than me. it's a weird feeling. and coming from someone who has asthma, weird is beyond the average norm i think. i will wait until the morning. i took some mucinex to thin the mucus and used the albuterol inhaler in case the tissue is just irritated. thanks chanel for your reassurance

if you at all have any more trouble please please please go straight to the E R..............this isnt something to play around with.....and with you having asthma.....such as i have the albuterol will help for a short time only......it reduces the irritation to the bronchial tubes......im hoping someone is there with you to monitor you.......

FYI - still felt horrid this morning, so i called my dr. went in and saw him. Got heimliched a few times (sigh). Nothing moved, so he sent me for a chest x-ray. Still waiting to hear the results and see if a scope is necessary. Thanks for the support. Thanks jayded for making me feel i wasn't being stupid!!!

HI, hope things have improved. You have seenyour doctor so that is good. i was going to add that my friend a few years ago did not even realize she had aspirated anything - she sneezed while eating. But she got sick, bad sick, got pnuemonia as a result of what was a few grains of steamed white rice sucked into one lunc. It sat and got infected and she ended up in the hospital. SO I am very glad you called your doctor! Hope all is well. MsOpal

The truth was, i learned later, that he aspired a peanut and died from the pneumonia it caused. This happened around 1920 when he was 4 years old, hopefully it doesn't happen today.
