Okay... Can someone who is a bit more experienced than me explain the concept of public play? I'm really confused. I am possibly turned on by the idea of showing off my bond in public but I am just confused as to what the f@#&&! that might mean. I have no idea. Educate the downy innocent... love, anne

However other's will watch you who either are or claim to be in the lifestyle. Everyone is of legal age and will know what is happening. Gloria, covered it pretty well. The chance to play with an audience of consenting adults The chance to use the furniture that most of us only dream of being able to have at home. There is a different group energy that a you get in a public playspace, there are times when the scene will feed off of the energy from the crowd, other times the scene will be disrupted by the energy of the crowd. Most of the time it goes un-noticed once you really get into the play. Last weekend I got into a fireplay scene and the crowd disappeared for me from about 5 minutes into the scene until the scene was over. I recall looking up once and seeing several dozen people watching the scene, but a second later they were gone again for me. When the energy is good the public play is great when the energy is off the scenes are often far less enjoyable. In Leather Archer

Public play generally refers to playing at a party or club. It's a way to socialize, use equipment you don't have, an excuse to dress up, a chance to explore your voyeurism and exhibitionism, to play with an entirely different mix of energy than you get one on one, to see new types of play and experiment with things that aren't in your particular toybag....oh yeah. It's hard to get passed around and used as a hole if there aren't people to use you. It can also mean playing literally in vanilla public, vibrators and rope dresses under clothing, sex in public, feeding the bottom, etc. As with everything- some people love it, some people hate it, and some really don't care.

I just want to correct one little thing. Sub4 play parties are not always priovate. Some are club members only but most of them are open to people from the streets of legal age to be there, like the SF citadel.

I don't believe I could go to someplace that allowed anything off of the street's to walk in. Club X did that down here...many were arrested. A lot more happened but..it was nasty for a good chunk of a year.

All of what has been said so far is true. You can have public play at parties, clubs and well in public. If you're worried about what is involved you might be able to ease into things. I know here there are several clubs/venues designed for 'public' play, but with different rules and ummm crowds who go. I first started playing in public at a club designed to introduce people to the lifestyle, where the rules on play were very mild and tightly controlled. I've since been to private parties and other venues where it's very much more open. If you're at all worried, start out at a milder venue, or perhaps get your partner to take you to a party on the understanding that the first time you go you may only just want to watch rather than participate. Most venues will have play areas and social areas, so that if you really can stand watching needle play or some other activity, well there is somewhere to go to just chill out and chat.

The Citadel is really nice I've been there:) The problem with private invite only ones is you gotta be a member of the club or know someone who is and usualy ya don't.

Public play is My favourite facet of BDSM. There is nothing like the sounds and the smells and the ambience that one gets out of a play party, or a private one as well. I have learned so much from the parties I have attended and have made so many great friends. I am a true advocate of public play...it beats the hell out of anything on line .

Public play has all the benefits mentioned by Those/those whom have all ready commented, plus perhaps one or two more. When public play happens within a commercial or "hall type" venue, it allows for activities and behaviors most can not comfortably engage in at home. Single tail, fire play, come to mind, also the ability if allowed by ones Dom/Domme/Top/Master/Mistress to make some noise, well more noise then can be made when playing in a private dwelling. The social aspects of public play allow O/one to seek out play/partnership oppertunities not always available through online communication. my beginnings in D/s started in public play, and in many ways it is a true part of my lifestyle, it has brought me experiences that have enriched my private play, and in many ways has allowed me to enjoy the skills and learn from those W/whom i may never have seen in action otherwise. In the end it is what You/you make of it, and what You/you take from it, that will decide if it is right for Y/you.
