Finally.....
A well written nilla publication that gives more of an accurate description of sadomasochism without echoing society's stereotype viewpoints.

Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down: Pain for Pleasure

That's a good article actually.

Wow, very well thought out and articulated and not at all judgemental. Thanks.

You're welcome...

Rare to see an article that's written in a "vanilla" perspective that dose not imply BDSM as a totally negative thing.

If any one else has links to other positive articles please post....

There's only one problem with it. I have a friend who is a psych professor, and she showed me right in the diagnostic manual... Sadomasochism is, in fact, still considered a mental disorder.

Looks like one person printed false information a while back and everyone copied it from each other without checking the actual books. I've read probably 15 articles in the last month that said it was removed in the 80s... but it's on the current books.

Of course sadomasochism is still in the DSM-IV as a paraphillia, but it's qualified to state that to meet these requirements it must demonstrate the following features:

* Recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors generally involving 1) nonhuman objects, 2) the suffering or humiliation of oneself or one’s partner, or 3) children or other nonconsenting persons, that occur over a period of at least 6 months.
* The behavior, sexual urges, or fantasies cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.

#1 pretty much defines the BDSM kink; #2 is what determines if it's a mental disorder.

If BDSM is screwing up your life, your sex life, your job, or your ability to function happily, then perhaps it needs to be examined.

Excellent point. Thank you for that, I will be passing it on to her! We've argued back and forth about it, and I think that is something she has not considered.

serrena -> RE: S&M, an ABC News Original Report... (6/23/2005 7:33:24 PM)

that was very interesting to read. It's nice to see that someone is trying to let society know that this is ok and that we are not all just a bunch of fruit cakes.. a little kinky, but not crazy !
