So yea, as a major fan of hypnosis (wouldn't have guessed, huh?), I'm curious what comes to most peoples' minds when it is mentioned.

Could be anything from mind control to stage shows to rubbish, but I'm curious.

Yes, I do have a choice available for those who regularly take part in fun with hypnosis, whether it be sub or dom

What comes immediately to mind is:

Someone on a stage clucking like a chicken. Well jeez, you asked what comes to mind.

Relaxation.  Like having 8 hours sleep in a 30 minute session.

That I did, and that's why one of the options in the poll is a comedy stage show of hypnotism, because I know that's what immediately comes to some peoples' minds.

Nice turnout so far, and it's only been a couple hours...

I'm of the opinion that people can be hypnotized, if they're agreeable and suggestible.

Without either component I feel that (all-inclusive "you") you'd need to resort to repetitive and perhaps brutal tactics to get results. And in that case, it's more likely mental conditioning (Pavlov's dogs) combined with Stockholm Syndrome (dependancy on & a need to cooperate with one's captor for survival) than it is stereotypical "mind control".

Some day I wanna know someone well enough to know they're interested in being hypnotized and be able to test/pull off the "handshake induction," which is one of many sneaky inductions that takes advantage of a light trance induced by confusion, which anyone can fall into at any time.  Same as average hypnosis, it's still voluntary, and since it's "sneaky" I'd look like an idiotic jerk if it don't work.

Everyone note: you have fallen into at least a light trance many, upon many, upon MANY times in your life (daydreaming, not knowing quite how you got from point A to point B, times where your conscious mind does not know what you just did, times when you are so focused on something that you block out all distractions, like a movie or a really interesting conversation...)

Didn't think of having the option of literal sleep in there, but is there now, makes sense that someone would think that way.

Doug Henning.  Although I think he was a magician.
Either way....he's freaky and so is hypnotism.

Hmm, I look at the three votes above about wanting to try hypnotism.  You can feel free to message me (if you haven't already, and especially if you're female, given that I like female submissives), as well as any women who like the thought of being controlled via hypnosis... eh, ya never know, right?
Would enjoy talking to some fun female subs about hypnosis and about how enjoyable it can be for them...

Honestly I don't believe in it.  I could be wrong but it just seems hokey to me.

I've an open but critical mind on the matter. I'd like to know more, and know what it can do, with some evidence that I can see. I've seen a number of personal accounts that would suggest the results could be quite interesting.

If I had a sub that was ameniable to it, I'd like to learn how to do it.

Hypnosis: I picture some really, really creepy guy Hypnotizing women above his lot....Then he has  them finger themselves while chanting, "Hypnodude is soooo powerful" while he gets busy jerkin' the gherkin....Then he sees how many of his Star Wars figurines he can stick in their ass and snatch.

actually the first thing that comes to my mind is the people who have had "recovered memories" after visting a hypnotist that later turned out not to have happened at all.
this is a major problem in the ufo field because so many reports of alien abduction have been recovered under hypnosis after the abductee experienced the "missing time" phenomena.

i tried to write a story once about people who'd had false memories implanted into them via hypnosis, but it sort of fizzled out.

To Dauric: feel free to ask anytime (prolly easier than you think)

magicmushy: that is one thing that is possible, the mind controls the senses and you obviously wouldn't be opposed to that lol

domi: A creepy guy probably couldn't hypnotize anyone because no one would be able to relax at all around him.  Your perceptions of a person matters, for example, it's hard to hypnotize some of my volunteering friends because they know me from years before I knew anything about hypnosis, so they kinda will against it because they don't see a friend who's "never been into hypnosis" as being a competent hypnotist, harder to do, not impossible.  Talk to any hypnotist you meet, ask them if it's harder to hypnotize friends who knew him/her before they were into hypnosis.  And on the Star Wars figurines stuff... ugh.  Stick with the toys meant for those places, please :P

missfrillypants: that's an interesting one.  I suppose it is possible, given that people who have dealt with that phenomenon NEED something to fill that gap, and while they're much more suggestible they are willing to take in any memories that will fill up the time that would count as something they would want to repress.  Though obviously any hypnotherapist that has implemented false memories, if it truly has happened, should definately lose their certification, not anyone who looks into repressed memories creates them.  I've looked a little into age regression where the subject comes up with the memories and describes them to the 'tist, such as a person with an INCREDIBLE fear of spiders (we're talking paralyzing fear + nightmares + hard to breathe fear) finding out he developed the fear at an abandoned train yard at the age of 5 when a black hand *resembling* a spider grabbed his ankle from under the trash, and he shook free and RAN.  Not all hypnotists who look into memories create them, actually the grand majority wouldn't "create them" (though possibly reframe them, "they weren't laughing at you, but with you!"), you likely know that, but I just feel I should be sure of that.
The missing time phenonemon and UFO memories recovered by 'tists... that's a really interesting topic, whether the memories are real or not...

I know enough about it to not play around with it unless you have the proper training.

they did it as an experiment, to see if it would work once. the idea is mostly that well meaning hypnotherapists are helping people uncover recovered memories, but because the therapist is looking for a ufo, the person already kind of is too, the person is susceptible to suggestion and wants to please the therapist as well...
it's supposed to be done by accident.

this is also referenced re: satanic ritual abuse, which everyone knows is total b.s.

but yes, i wonder just what can be recovered under hypnosis and the topic is very interesting. that's why i was going to write about it.
