Real, have you forgotten 1933 ? We have been in a national state of emergamcy and living under Admiralty Jurisdiction since then. The only thing left is martial law.

Pot is illegal, yet to outlaw booze they needed a Constitutional amendment, why ? It is because they had not the power to tell us what to eat and drink. Now they can make growing tomatoes illegal, as Harry Rosenthal pointed out.

Let's get to the original question, why is every war started with a lie ?

The answer is so simple. It's the only way to get people to go fight it for them.

Then there is more to it than that.

Constitutionally the corps are supposed to pay for war when protecting the interest of corps, as in oil.  The only time the people are supposed to pay is if the gov asks for the money and the people voluntarily hand it over.    This insures we went to war for a super damn good reason instead of perpetual imperialism that we have now.

For the most part we go in pillage and then leave with the thought that we gave them a better life but did we?   Like our way of life is the only one?  Arrogant imo.

As far as attack on this country is concerned that is why the states are supposed to have militias that the people would pay for.

The problem is with this constant nationalism and socialistic tendency that people have.  The idea of getting soemthing for nothing when in fact we pay for it over and over a zillion times with the government and feds in the middle with their hands out scraping it all off the top.

That is the problem and i mean the continually growing problem otherwise called mission creep and gov continues to grow, this country becomes more of everything we dont want as far as our liberties are concerned.

So by keeping this country in perpetual state of emergency and "crisis" we can use war powers to circumvent the constitutional road blocks and people ar eto ignorant to know and to complacent to care.

i dont think most people know what freedom even is, they would rather just open up their wallets and pay the extortionists than to force the constitution.

or as gw would say  http://www.rexresearch.com/bush_fing.gif

I don't mean to be such a troll here, but I started reading this a bit late into the argument.

But, from my point of view, soldiers go because they're told to. If they don't do as they're told, their life is ruined.  They're ostracized, their family is evicted, and the soldier is sent to jail for a ridiculous amount of time.  It's easier just to roll the dice, and hope your leg doesn't get blown off. That's just getting there. Once there, we fight because we're watching our buddy's back, making sure that he gets back to that ultrasound picture that his wife sent three months ago, in time to see his child come screaming into this world.

Civilians don't fight, but they put up with it, because they believe what they're told. It's reinforced at several levels. In public schools (We ripped the system straight from the Prussians, possibly the most militaristic society known to man.) no one is taught critical thinking, but simply to follow the crowd from bell to bell. Conformity to authority, and conformity to the herd is expected. On the television, and in the newspaper, we're desensitized from any visceral emotional reaction to the violence, by simply flooding the screen, day in, and day out. The images, and sound bytes are put on the screen faster than you can stop and think about it. I'll leave the religious aspect out of it for now, but lets just say, certain monotheists have a tendency to back anything that is remotely pro-Israel.

The voices with any say in Washington, the corporations, don't protest, because it's a windfall economy for them. Who needs morals when you can have a profit margin?

Welcome to the modern warfare-welfare state. In everything that happens- ask yourself "For whose good? Who does this profit?"

RealOne,

"Why do wars start with a lie?"

99% of people asked "to die for a lie, a sham or the vested interests of a tiny minority" wouldn't be too keen on the idea, but propaganda and advertising is capable of convincing so many minds they're dying for a cause.

As Bertrand Russell succinctly put it, 'People prefer to die than to think.'

If you want to discuss the Iraqi army ... how about the lie that they had a chance in the field against the American military.

If you are talking about the civil population ... how about "There are no Americans in Baghdad.", or the various things that are promissed to suicide bombers.

You can't seriously be suggesting that Saddam's government was completely honest with both it's military or civilian population?

I've always been fascinated by the years immediately preceeding WW1.

Socialism and internationalism were rampant around 1913/1914. Something like 34% of Germans voted for a Socialist party around that time. The British Liberal party was in government. Old Europe was reforming its traditional conservative and monarchist approach. One sniff of war and all internationalist ideals were swept under the carpet - which, in part, explains WW1.
