What is overall the best type of birth control to be on for women?

It depends on the person. My best friend is on the pill, my sister is on the shot and I am on the ring. All of us have tried other things and found the one that works best for us.
Talk to your doctor, there are so many options now that it really depends on what you prefer and what works best for you.

LOL well obviously the best type is abstinence.

Then there's having your tubes tied or ovaries removed.

Or there's a depo shot, a ring, a pill, a sponge, a cup, a patch, or having your male partner get a vasectomy.

What your lifestyle is, how much you can pay, what you're looking towards in the future, what your hormons and body will react to will all affect which choice is best for you.

this slave agrees wholeheartedly. anything involving synthetic hormones and you are taking risks with your health either now or in the future.

So DepoProvera that is okay to take as long as you take calcium supplements? That is what I have heard. Is this true?

Yeah, I did. I have made my decision though. I am definitely not going to start taking Depo Provera because there are too many negative side effects. I am going to just stick to the pill, Ortho Try Cyclin, I think that will work best for me. Just have to pick a good time and make myself remember. How do some of you remember to take your pill?

Can't really help you there, I could never remember.
For a while I put my boyfriend on the pill (sort of). Every day at the same time he was supposed to bring me a pill and a small cup of water, if he was not able to do it in person then he was to call and remind me. This worked really well because he was better at remembering it then I was, but alas, we broke up and when I was alone I couldn't remember to take it. That's why I am on the ring.

Well, i am on the patch because i *can't* remember to take the pill, i remember to change my Ortho-Evra patch because i have my Yahoo! email set up to mail me every Wenesday. You may want to try and do the same thing, particularly if you check your mail at the same time every day.

You can set your mobile phone or watch alarm to beep you at the same time each day.

Or put up a notice on the fridge door so when you're making breakfast you'll see it and remember to wash it down with your morning coffee.

Master has to take several medications every day so when He takes His I take mine, and they're laid out on the kitchen counter so we'll see them and remember. We don't have any small children around BTW

i use he ring and i love it, i did not like Depo because i did not have a period with it, just felt weird with no period and my gyno said he had heard that before, and with the patch, my sister works for them and she said you have to be less than 180lbs for it to be effective, leaves me out, lol. good luck with whatever you decide!

For me I made it a routine...don't most subs love rules and routines to follow?

Just remember, it won't prevent any sort of STD transmission.

Well, I went to the doctor today and got my birth control pills, Ortho TryCyclin Lo and I start them on Sunday. We shall see how that goes. I think I will try setting my cell phone's alarm to go off at the same time everyday as well as making sure I remember.

When I was on the pill years ago I would take it in the morning. If you get into a routine then it makes it easier. Also, if I have to take medacation today, I will set the bottle in a place I know I will always see it. For me, it's on the kitchen stove or counter where I always go in the morning to fix my son breakfast before he goes to school. If you've a place you always look when you first wake up, you might try placing yourself a note there to remind you to take your meds.

I LOVE my low-dose hormone pills. The only think I have against them is that they might be reducing my sex-drive.

I'm not sure about that, though, because I'm on a variety of other pills that could be causing the effect.

Still, I was sick to my stomach for the first 3 months I was on the darn thing. After three months, I've had no problems. I've been on it for almost two years. No babies yet :)

I've used condoms, the pill and the Depo shots. Ended up with a child with the condoms, nasty side effects with the pill and a reduced sex drive with Depo (although the lack of period was something I enjoyed).

I'm using an IUD now and it's been wonderful. No babies, no lower sex drive, no yeast infections, no nausea, no having to go in every few months for a shot... my only side effect has been a less regular period. Before, I would go for 4 days, heaviest on the first and second, barely noticeable on the last 2 but with fairly heavy cramping on all 4 days. Now it tends to vary more now over that 4 day period, and I get cramping before my period which throws me off a little, but I consider it worth it. :)

The IUD is not a form of birth control that will protect against disease, and it seems to be most recommended for women who've already had a child. There are two types, a simple copper one (which is what I use) and a hormone-treated slow-release type that has much the same effect as the Depo shots.

Just another option to keep in mind. I know the IUD received a lot of bad press way back when, but it's been much improved over the years.
