Remember this.  Not everyone here is who they are.  They are not the age they say they are.  They are not the gender they say they are.  They don't actually live where they say they do.  They are not actually seeking what they say they are seeking.  View eveyone you meet here as though they are not telling you the truth about themselves unless you, yourself, can verify this.  Be totally wary of everyone here until you feel totally safe with them.  I hope this sheads some light on your delimia.

I say! Good thing I stumbled across this. Where I grew up -and I have heretofor understood it as such- "unmentionables" refered to ones privates[:-] So, now I understand a couple of things I didn't understand around here...

And for the record, no, I do not have any children -that I know of, anyway...

It commonly was used by women to refer to "undergarments"...ie. panties, bras and the like in the "olden days"....: ) Actually, I use "unmentionable" to refer to my ex-boyfriend...or "he who shall remain nameless" when I am talking to certain people....LOL

OMG...i'm old!!?? when did that happen?

slaverosebeauty -> RE: Unmentionables: Will someone please explain it to me? (5/16/2007 8:18:57 AM)

Everytime I have heard the word 'unmentionables' it has always refered to 'undergarments' bras, panties, underwear, etc. I haven't heard it to mention children. Heck, I use the word 'son' or 'munchkin' on the boards, no one has ever said not too.

Maybe a few people didn't get the memo that you CAN use the word 'children.'

edited because my nails are freakin long an i keep hitting the wrong keys

Stella, we're sorry if this rule drives you up a wall, but it's an annoyance we'll live with considering the big picture.

Our little home on the web gets regular visits from IP addresses in netblocks owned by government agencies.  Discussions of minors in a sexually explicit environment is a recipe for all manner of unwanted attention from our various government and law enforcement agencies.  If someone does take an interest in us because of such discussions, you're not going to be the one on the hook, the site owners will be.

Some people might consider this overreacting, but they might feel differently if it was their home, personal property, savings and freedom at risk.

Hey, Mod. =)

Oh, I understand the reasoning behind it, trust me. It's necessary. It's still irksome, lol

No harm, no foul. =)

~ fast reply but mostly towards those who complain that they can not talk about their younin's on here ~

Mod11 said it best. It's a safety feature for those who are putting themselves on the chopping block FOR this site.

I want to point out something though. I quite often talk about my teenager here. It just depends on what the subject is about, and how the post is worded. Sometimes they remove it, sometimes they leave it up.

/shrug

It's easy for us to complain about this site not being what WE want it to be; however, perhaps we should try putting ourselves in the owners shoes; not to mention putting out the money that they are obviously pouring into this site. [:)]

To IrishMist

Well, I understand the reasoning behind it. I never said I didn't.. I was just venting a little. And so what? lol. Venting once in awhile isn't against TOS.

It's also pretty easy to complain about those who complain, ;P That isn't a crime in here, either, lol

NControlofU -> RE: Unmentionables: Will someone please explain it to me? (5/16/2007 8:45:33 AM)

Yeah, and the "weirdos that lurk about" don't have ANY clue as to what is meant by unmentionables or UMs.  That's a good one.

its the word we use for children here on cm because of some weirdos that lurk about . Also just a thing we like to use here.

Mercnbeth -> RE: Unmentionables: Will someone please explain it to me? (5/16/2007 9:10:21 AM)

what this slave finds hard to understand is why, after agreeing to the terms of service in order to use this site, folks don't understand this part:

"Subjects which are unacceptable regardless of circumstance include, but are not limited to - minors, bestiality, incest, necrophilia, snuff and criminal activities. Any other questions of acceptability will be determined based on the content of the given essay."

or this part, for that matter:

"Keep the discussions civil and mature, and do not insult the kinks, preferences, lifestyles, etc. of others."

early on in this slave's participation on these boards, this slave wrote to the mods about the previous rule and asked them why have a rule if it is constantly broken here by folks insisting on discussing topics they agreed not to in order to use the site?

their reply was along the lines of "it's a rule because we said so, we aren't always aware of every time it is broken and do our best to remove those threads as soon as we are aware of them."

sounds reasonable to this slave.

beth, i am glad you brought this up. There has been so much intolerance and insults to the various kinks that fall under the BDSM umbrella. And while we are all given the freedom of speech, i don't think it is always used responsibly or with curtesy to others.

And truly, there should be very little discussion in the forums on minors, coded or not - most of us joined because of our adult preferences not because we wanted to meet other parents~

Mercnbeth -> RE: Unmentionables: Will someone please explain it to me? (5/16/2007 9:42:41 AM)

this slave has come to the conclusion that some folks REALLY don't know or don't care about the difference between stating an opinion, such as:

" third person speech isn't something I prefer or would do, because it would make me feel like a mindless moron"

and an insult, however veiled as an opinion,

"anyone who uses or requires the use of third person speech is a mindless moron, IMO, YMMV, yadda yadda, i could be wrong..., etc."

either that, or they don't mind breaking rules they agreed to when they signed on here.

lovewithoutfear -> RE: Unmentionables: Will someone please explain it to me? (5/16/2007 9:49:20 AM)

--fast reply--
I wish UMs could be discussed, because there are several subjects related to that which I'd love to read people's opinions on.  How to deal with them finding out about one's fetish/lifestyle/etc.  When (if ever) to tell them what one is into.  How to deal with UMs walking in on a scene.  Custody issues.

I wonder if there are other resources for this online.

dawntreader -> RE: Unmentionables: Will someone please explain it to me? (5/16/2007 9:59:04 AM)

How would you handle the vanilla version? It is the same when it comes to age appropriateness. Discusions with adult offspring are different as to what you chose to divulge, but minors are minors in whatever relationship you chose~

actually it isn't the same at all, and it would be very helpful to many of us in certain situations (parents of or living with minors) to be able to come and discuss the very unique issues that living this lifestyle presents with others who can relate. it's not as if you can go to a parenting message board and say, "my 5 y.o. saw bruises all over my back, how can i explain this to her," or "how can we raise a rugrat in an M/s household." not to mention the issues of custody, lifestyle awareness, etc. that lovewithoutfear pointed out. these are topics that in the past i've seen discussed extensively on other lifestyle online communities, so it's a bit of a puzzle that such discussion is not permitted to take place here (at least not without being quickly deleted).

Interesting...where did you find that? It just occurred to me that I might was reading the TOS for collarme.com and not collarchat.com and I do forget they aren't exactly the same.  Knowing that this clause is in the TOS makes it a lot clearer to me, but I still am irked by the "ums" thing cause it means underwear for heaven's sake!

Again, i would say, age appropriateness. It is no different - a five year old can't comprehend the concept of BDSM. How could you possibly explain those bruises to a 5 yr old from a BDSM standpoint that they would understand... that mommy loves being beaten by daddy? How to you differentiate between that and true abuse? How can you possibly raise a stable individual whose concept of sexuality and social behavior is barely formed and explain deviant behavior?

When we are parents, that should come first, lifestyle second...
There is always the ability to private message other individuals about these issues but i agree with the Moderators, too risky and not enough benefit.

this slave finds it up at the top of each section heading under "Terms of Service".

if you still want to discuss them, yet hate the reference to underwear, this slave has seen folks use "wee ones", "replicants", "offspring", "mini-me's" and a variety of others she can't remember off the top, instead of UM's or unmentionables.

as to the intent behind the rule, maybe, and this is just a BIG maybe, the folks who run the show at CM aren't interested in taking up bandwidth discussing them and their impact on adult relationships, D/s, M/s or vanilla.

aside from the obvious legal ramifications, this slave is all for adult oriented websites/restaurants/casinos/clubs/communities that are free of them, or discussions about them...there's PLENTY of replicant worship/discussion out there in the vanilla world to immerse ones-self in, if that is what you desire, why bring it here?

all those who are into "the wee one comes first, no matter what" are out there on all the vanilla sites as well~if that's your mantra, what are you doing here anyway...don't you know your ex-husband/wife/family member is going to use this medium of your expression of yourself AGAINST you, if at all possible, because the vanilla society we live in won't accept what we do as healthy or legal or moral and dangerous to expose wee ones to in the first place?[:'(]

What's really funny about the "unmentionables" and CM is that one naturally follows the other... the fact that we aren't supposed to talk about children on a sex site (our own, of course -- not, however, that I have any) is really ironic, if you ask me.
