Numbness can be caused by simply hitting the wrong area, or restricting blood flow to that area. Hense the foot falling asleep type syndrome.

I know that in some cases nerves will attempt to regenerate themselves, but it may never be to the extent of what it was.

I have chronic low blood sugar, hypoglycemia, and nerve sensation/numbness is something I've dealt with for a very long time. Some of it has come back. Also, if you have hidden food allergies or a hidden medical condition, this can cause it too. Diabetics that have not been found out yet to be diabetic can sustain nerve damage if things are not found out soon. When treatment is started though the nerves will usually attempt to restore themselves causeing a bad tingling sensation which can be very annoying for a while.

If a nerve, however, is completely cut through disconnecting itself from the source, well...normally that doesn't come back at all. The body is an interesting machine though. Sometimes the impossible can become possible, but why take chances.

I would highly recommend more study on the pressure points of the body and the nervous system. That way you'll avoid numbness in the future and permanent damage. You'll want to stay away from the pressure points if possible.

I don't like metal cuffs as they do hit pressure points and can cause numbess. If it is insisted that you use metal cuffs, then you can always sew a fabric padding around them. That is easy enough to do and shouldn't hinder the use of the cuff. You can also buy already padded metal cuffs.
