HeavansKeeper -> D/D Free (5/15/2007 6:57:21 AM)

I've heard D/D Free to be "Drugs and Disease Free" and also "Drugs and Drinking Free."

I've always used the term as "Drugs and Disease" as I've never thought drinking to be as big an issue... but is there a standard?  Was the person who told me it was "D/Drinking" wrong?  If there isn't a standard, wouldn't it get confusing... I prefer a drinker to someone with disease if I had the option.

Drugs, disease, drinking to excess....personally, I would avoid them all.

Certainly would agree... Luckily I don't have to worry about D/D Free as My Pet and I aren't the sharing type.

Remember that D/D status can always change with time.  Some STD's don't show up or test positive (HIV for example) for a long time after exposure to them.  Regular testing is always wise.  There are other things, such as venerial warts that can take a long time to become evident and then require repeated treatments to get rid of and can still return many years later; plus there are no blood tests that I know of to check for exposure to them.  Other tests regularly give false positive results for people who've never shown any symptoms of them (Herpes comes to mind, plus normal cold sores, can become STD's through oral sex as another, separate form of Herpes).

Sorry to burst any bubbles, but it's not nearly as simple as it sounds. [8|]

If people want to be technical, drinking is a drug - so in that case, the person isnt wrong to add drinking to the drug clasification.

Peace

A lot of drinkers do things while drunk they would never do while sober.  As well as potentially kill another person.
Myself I'd prefer them to be drugs, disease and drinking free.

I've always understood the acronym to be disease and drug free.

ThinkingKitten -> RE: D/D Free (5/19/2007 5:18:44 PM)

I've always taken it to mean "Drug and Disease" free, where drug means any kind of chemical dependency, be it alcohol, nicotine, prescribed pain meds, or crack ( to name but a few).

D/D free usually means Drug/Disease free ...as alcohol is considered a drug of sorts.

Drug and Disease.  I wouldn't wory too much about drugs, they can't pass them to me, at least.  Though I wouldn't retain a relationship with someone who had a problem and made no effort to fix it.  Disease is the real fear. Never sure if the person you shared a night of passion with will have given you your death in bed.

I worry about all of those things....

I want to know if you are carrying a disease (it won't preclude you because I'm not a mindless idiot who thinks there is no way to protect myself and still love you too) but I gotta know so I can take those precautions.  Disclosure is everything.

Drugs...no.  If you want to kill yourself then fine, but you won't bring it into my home around my family and put me in a position to lose my nursing licence because it's one day found in my home because you were an idiot and were doing it and/or selling it.

Drinking....I have an occasional drink, my husband has a few beers a week, big deal.  The deal comes when you want me to engage in play with you when one or both of us has been drinking.  That's just stupid.  It's dangerous and a recipe for potential disaster on so many levels....harming my ward, myself, and losing well earned trust. Not worth it.

(of course "you" is not YOU keeper...but anyone I potentially want to get to know better and maybe engage with)
