So I called home. "I am, north of Missouri, west of the Mississippi, east of I380, south of I80, and heading north and west, should be home in about an hour and twenty" .........I was. It is things like that that tend to drive those I love batty. Sorry, You lost me in the fading summer daylight on some twisting, turning country road. But for some reason i feel carsick, hmmmm. I understand what you're saying to a point. However having worked in an office that had the wrong directions listed on mapquest I tend not to trust them too well. I can get lost even with the best of directions. I tend to do much better with landmarks rather than streets. Goes back to my midwestern roots where" go down the road aways and turn left at Old Man Thompson's barn, keep goin' until you see 4 silos then take a right onto the paved road and left again past the Carlyle place." were all that were used for directions. That being said I have horrible navigational skills and my friends have offered more than once to have a GPS chip imbedded under my skin because I can get lost in a store I've been to a million times. (A friend joked that they would be getting me a GPS device for my car for my birthday and I was actually disappointed I didn't get it!) Gawd Forbid someone should give directions saying north or south. It is not at all unusual for me to add an extra 30 minutes onto my travel time because I know I'm going to get lost. Even on the way home from somewhere I've driven to successfully I have gotten lost. I should also mention that even though I've lived here close to a decade it is not unusual for me to receive a Thomas Brothers Map Book for a certain holiday every year. For some reason I can deal with a map much better. I have little laminated individual maps of the surrounding cities, counties and the entire state of California in my driver's door pocket. Embarrassingly enough I got lost on the way to class today. For some reason I completely forgot to take the right exit and ended up 20 miles out of the way. On the other hand, I do know my left from my right without to much difficulty! Even if someone does take the initiative to do an online directions search I still prefer that they confirm directions with me to make sure they are correct. Mapquest has about a 30% error rate. I do the same as well prior to leaving. Nothing worst than being lost and having no idea how to even explain where you are so that the person you're meeting can get you to the right place.

I remember how to get to places in the mountains my parents drove me to at the age of 8 when I was arguing with my sister playing Monopoly. I think it is just weird. Sinergy p.s. On a related note, I was reading something a week or two ago about the differences in the way men and women's brains process information. Women tend to be landmark oriented. Men tend to have an innate understanding of direction. The article did not go into reasons for this, but simply made the opinion that a woman asks for directions when she cannot find a place because she does not recognize the landmarks. Whereas men tend to think it is over ---------> there and asking directions is a waste of time.

If the area is unfamiliar I would want a local landmark or public transport facility, but I would figure the rest out myself. I hate having to ask directions, especially in the street. But then again I live in London. It seems a surefire way of finding idiots. You'll walk up to someone and ask directions and they'll turn to their left and say "Erm, yes, well,it's erm..." and then they'll swing round to their right and say "Erm I think it could be down down there on the right." Or you'll come across an American who starts talking about how many 'blocks' away it is when all you need to know is what street it comes off. My favourites are those who say, "Go over the cross roads and carry on straight, see the first street on the right, go past that, then you come to another street on the right, go past that one as well,and then another street, and then another street, and you come to a church, and you carry on, and then you come to another street, oh and then a bank, and there'll be a shopping centre nearby, and then a couple of more streets and then you'll find it by the big stone church on the left." I find it's much quicker and simpler to use a map, and even better, to take the map with you.

Ignorance is irritating in any form...if you dont understand the directions ask for clarification. I once invited a submissive to my home and she got into such a fluster over the directions ( Which involved one left turn and three rights from her home ), she was crying when she finally got there. By the time she arrived I was so tired I tasked her with reading to me while I rested, and she calmed down. My level of frustration was through the roof and they best way she could serve my needs at the time was to read to me. It's just like those that make a profile and then get pissy when they get a decent response...

I never said anyone was worthless, I never said I wouldn't form a relationship based on it, I specifically said that I DO give directions when they are asked for. It just irritates me. Many people said "I ask for directions after I get Yahoo" or "Mapquest" and that was my point. Not taking the time to get the directions FIRST is what irritates - not people who are bad with directions, who don't instinctively know right from left, or who are poor navigators. Well that's not what I meant by entitled. Entitled in the way that a patron to a restaurant gets annoyed when they don't get a seat right away on a Sat night with no reservation. i haven't read the thread so sorry if i repeat. Some people are visual and some are auditory in how they take in information and process it. i can read a map and get myself anywhere, but give me verbal directions, even if i write them down and i am lost. i have a friend who i drove into the city - Queens actually - and as i was driving i handed her the map and told her to find where we had to go and direct me - she had me going in every direction except the right one!! i was so frustrated and angry actually with her - i mean how could she NOT tell me the right highway, street, ave, etc to go she had a freaking map! Maps just completely confused her. i pulled over and she got directions from people and while they totally confused me, they made sense to her - and eventually through pulling over and me reading the map and her getting directions we got where we were going. Hope this helped lol.
