I'm not sure what you attempted here...but you can't put anything within the tag itself.  Don't add text nor spaces between the brackets (I did add a space so you could SEE how they work.

After this program applies the tags automatically (by clicking 'quote'...just add your thoughts below the close-quote tag like this (but again, without the added space in the tags):

[ quote]ORIGINAL: MsBearlee

This will be an original quote

[ /quote]

This is where to type comments...

And...why on earth would you mess with my nic?

Just found this:  http://www.collarchat.com/pgdcode.asp

COOL... it's a list of code and instructions on how to use it!!!  And, it works in the Forums.  Thanks, Cm!

What IS reality?

Sanity -> RE: Quotes (6/10/2007 7:18:17 PM)

Restlessness spews a violent urgency of drumbeats to the situation, needlessly reverberating in the half-baked swamp mud hauled overland then raped with sewage and pollution til its barely recognizable against the moonlit sky

Sorry, I do not work for Collar me…and am working with my friend here.  I can help you this far:

When you click ‘quote’ for a message…
You will see what are called ‘Tags’.  These ‘tags’ control how things are displayed online.  Different programs use different kinds of tags and the only ones THIS program let’s us use are the ones that have to do with ‘quote’…and what it does is put a box around quotes.

These tags are:  [ quote]   and    [ /quote]  Meaning:  begin quote and end-quote.  (there should be no spaces between the brackets, I put a space there so they wouldn't work and you can SEE the tags in this post.

They work together and must be EXACTLY like shown…including at least one space before the first bracket…and one following the second.  The first is called an ‘open bracket’: [   …and the other is called ‘close bracket’:  ]
They work like parenthesis’s and work with similar rules….including nesting.

Nesting…(like a ‘parenthesis within a parenthesis’) needs all the brackets (both opening and closing (regardless of how many times)) for EACH quote...just like the parens here.

Soooo…when I want to quote YOUR post I click ‘quote’ and see (except for the extra space in the tag):

[ quote]ORIGINAL: cjenny

How do you do the layered multi- quote thingie please?
[ /quote]

( I added a space inside the brackets so that it wouldn’t work…and you can see what it looks like).  You would just begin typing  on the next line after the close-bracket:  [ /quote]

Nested quotes have an opening and closing bracket around each quote…but one is inside the other, like this:

[ quote]ORIGINAL: MsBearlee

[ quote]ORIGINAL: thompsonx

Ms. B = the geek squad  [ /quote]

Okay, this time remove a word within MY comment and loose my original quote, too.  :)  Go for it

[ /quote]

First are the two opening quotes… followed by the text for the second person listed …followed by the close-bracket for that quote

Then comes the quote for the first person listed and the close-bracket for THAT quote.

I will re-arrange what you see here...to try to make the 'nesting' more clear:

[ quote]ORIGINAL: MsBearlee

[ quote]ORIGINAL: thompsonx

Ms. B = the geek squad  [ /quote]

Clear as mud, no?  Just remember…there can be NO spaces between the brackets, I’m just showing you how they would look before you post.

All this is important (the opening and closing brackets) cuz if you want to edit a particularly long quote…you must remember to keep the brackets straight.  Make sense?

I hope that helps…

I hope this works for me.
I guess I found out how to add my reply to a quote.
