I have noticed something just recently.  It seems those who talk about what great Master they are are not the great ones.  It seems the more they say how wonderful they are the less wonderful they are seems the really great Dom's/Master don';t have to say it.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Mayby the old saying is right those who can do those who can't talk (ok i changed it a little)

I think it's simple, you will probably find braggarts to be just that. Egotistical maniacs aren't generally someone i want as the Person in charge of me. It's the modest ones that probably know best what they're doing. Obviously with the exception of those seeking to aid in the furthering of knowledge in other by doing demos and the like but even then it may not be the best idea to run around saying "I do the best Shibari EVER!"

Well I'm ok with a little horn tooting- sometimes someone really is great and they know it.

But it's fairly easy to tell the difference between earned arrogance and overcompensation.

I don't know that I've seen people say what a "great" Dominant they are, but I have seen people say that they are talented at one thing or another. I find most of that useful knowledge...as for the other, I take most people on the internet with a grain of salt anyway.

I refer to them as "Chest Thumpers".

Bottom line is: What you tell me really doesn't matter. What matters is what you do.

Talk is cheap.  Doms who go around saying how "dominant" or "masterful" or "real" they are, well here's the question I ask "who are you trying to convince?"  I think they are trying to convince themselves.

Couldn't have said that better myself.

To the op: I've also noticed that those who have the need to work between the lines of a paradigm, effectively show they arent as clued into dominance as they would have you believe.

If he's a Dom, you will know it, he'll radiate it, and experienced Dom's know that subs that will enjoy them, will gravitate like poor little debris towards such a focal point. If a Dom has to tell you he's a Dom or somehow convince you of this, then he's either insecure, or just pretending.
Natural Dominants, or Alphas, simply act, and react according to their nature, they don't need to learn how to be that way, you'll smell it, you'll see it, feel it, and hear it. They have a unique manner of being the most patient predators (and I mean that in a good way! I promise!), and will let you willingly lead yourself to them without having to try.

Although sometimes our precious predators need to have their ego's stroked, you can easily tell the difference when they're pounding chests or looking for a nice belly rub. I also would not reccomend rubbing any bellies until you're sure you want the predator to make off with you. :)

You should have asked him for references. You are only as great as the satisfaction of your slave, or slaves.

There is nothing wrong with taking pride in being a good dom or a good sub. That does not bother me or amuse me... what amuses me are the doms that find fault with the way that other dominants dominate their submissives based on practically no information except a question on a message board. Another type I find really entertaining are the ones that state on their profiles "I am not like other doms" or "I do not take submissives for granted like other doms" or "other doms are abusive, I am not like them". I always think these are the lowest sort of dominants frankly. Puffing themselves up to look better than others is a very weak way of attracting someone.

Personally, I could never see saying I am a great Domme. I am sure Angel or Truitt would say I am.  And there are several that would say I am not. The point is, that for someone else to judge.  What is perfect for one is all wrong for another. Kind of pointless to try and convince someone how great I am until I know which it might be.

had an influx of "chest thumpers" viewing my profile who were basically experts in almost everything they checked off on the interests section.  i'm still trying to figure how does one become an expert in shopping or garage sales

Same as anything- time, practice, good training.  My family made sure I had those mad skillz.

I had a business that was in the black after a year that relied on yardsales. I was an expert after two years in how to spot collectibles and antiques among the rubble of people's lives... oh yes, it can be a very valuable skill.. once I found an antique set of china I bought for 16 bucks and I sold them at a bargain to the buyer for 750.
