I'd be delighted to learn a new skill for my partner. Any new trade or knowledge would be beneficial, and it's always a nice feeling to be useful for somebody you care about...At least I enjoy it :)

One thing I've always liked but never had the time or tools for was carpentry. I'm thinking of picking that up again. Then I could make some simple toys and such. :)

OsideGirl -> RE: Do you like learning? (5/22/2007 10:42:16 AM)

I love learning new things. Some I do at Master's request. We've been volunteering to build houses and his request was that I learn what it takes to be there with him. (He even bought me a pink hammer)

Most things that I set out are goals for myself. I try to be proactive and learn them without his request. My goal is to make his life as smooth a possible. The latest kick is that I've always been a pretty good cook, but now I'm trying to expand my horizons. Last night was 40 clove garlic chicken and it was kick ass, if I do say so myself.

I also have goals in business, again to make life smoother. More income, less stress about money, easier to do things that we enjoy.

LOL...i actually posted a thread a few weeks ago about this type of thing. http://www.collarchat.com/m_983638/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#983638

i had posted regarding learning about sports so that i could relate to my Daddy when he watches them and make conversation about it.

There are a TON of things i'd love to learn...golf i think is on the horizon in the very near future, photography is another, as well as poker....there are sooo many things that i would learn specifically to please my Daddy or to  have the ability to relate to him better.....Ultimately it's a win-win situation because i also better myself in the process and then have a fun new skill to boot.

CrazyC -> RE: Do you like learning? (5/22/2007 11:30:22 AM)

Learning is what puts spice in life, and will be something that i will never stop. In fact, it has been showen that those who stop learning age faster.

So yes to everything, and especially if it is something to enrich our lives.

If I was serving a Domme and she wanted me to learn a certain skill that she thought would make me a better submissive for her I would be happy to do it.  I have a natural curiosity and would probably want to try it either way. I'm not sure how I would fare at knitting but like most things practice makes perfect

ProlificNeeds -> RE: Do you like learning? (5/22/2007 2:22:02 PM)

I love learning new skills or abilities, to know it would be useful and pleasing to my chosen Dom? Done deal.

littleone35 -> RE: Do you like learning? (5/22/2007 4:16:47 PM)

If Master wanted me to learn a new skill i would earerlly attack skill.  He does not really ask that much of me so if he did i would learn all i could about a particular skill ans\d pratice it so it would be perfect for him.

I am not sure if this is the same when i go back tioSchool at the end of Aug Master expects me to get a least an 80 on my tests  does that count?

I like to learn new stuff and tend to seek out people who I can learn from.  The thought of having self-directed learning tasks set is kind of cool, so long as they were achievable in a measurable amount of time.

BoundDragon -> RE: Do you like learning? (5/23/2007 12:13:48 PM)

I'm learning to be the practical girly type for my man.

I have always been the girl that got on with the lads, into cars, dresses more vampishly the flowery & pink etc etc I'm sure you get the idea.

Now we are looking for a home together I am learning more homely things so I can really make our home perfect for him... he has not once asked for this but it is something I have chosen to do for him off my own back.
I'd love to be the one to give him a welcome home kiss when he gets back from work, sit him down with his cup of tea while I bring in his freashly made dinner.

I do it because I love him and this is another way of showing it

ORIGINAL: Calandra

You'll have to take My word that I'm not attacking you, rather that I am attacking an idea that you put forth....

If someone claims to want to serve Me. If they offer their body, heart, mind and soul to Me, then I feel I have the right to ask then to learn something for Me. Their interest in the subject may or may not be there, that's not the issue. Not everything I ask of them will be tailor made to suit them.

I am one of those people who loves education, both for Myself and for those I serve. I have expected a slave to gain skill in many different things, and for many different reasons. Some examples:

I love performing arts. I once had a slave who was a country boy who looked down his nose on all that "high brow stuff". I began giving him assignments about composers, dancers, various operas and ballets, etc. I made sure to vary the material, from the very old to the most modern. I highlighted drama, comedy,  satire, etc. He came to understand the arts and to ultimately make them a passion in his own life. The benefits to Me? I gained a well-rounded slave AND an enthusiastic escort and conversational partner. The benefits to him? A well-rounded life and he lost the judgemental attitude about things that were new to him.

My cubby used to spew the worst political rhetoric. He would offer his opinion on almost any topic, blaming the president or stating law that supported his ideas. Most of it was handed to him on CNN. I told him that there were flaws in his reasoning. I didn't take issue with his opinions, just the supporting "facts" he'd use. I purchased a "US Government for Dummies" book and assigned a chapter a week, complete with a written or oral report about what he had learned. He finished the book at two chapters a week! I then told him that I required that he register to vote and be prepared to tell Me WHO he was voting for, and WHY. The boy actually did so well that he ended up changing MY mind about who I was voting for! He researched voting records and platforms, and gave Me concise resources that I could check for Myself. He also started analyzing his comments for flaws and began making much more sense when he did enter a political conversation. Benefits to Me? A much more well-rounded boy, and newfound respect for his abilities to see situations and the possible solutions to them. Benefits to him? A well-rounded life and the ability to help shape his future as a citizen. He also has a lot more confidence simply because he is speaking his own thoughts, rather than mimicking someone else's.

I often expect a slave to learn to cook, even though I do 95% of the cooking and shopping. I expect them to have hobbies, and to always be expanding their knowledge and experience.

Are the skills always used in service to Me? No... but they do make them better people, increasing their value to Me. The idea you put forth about "being used" has no merit since a sub/slave is My property, they are THERE to be used.

I was really impressed by this. I think it's a wonderful idea--not only does he please you, but he "betters" himself, which in turn, I would think, please you doubly.

littlesarbonn -> RE: Do you like learning? (5/24/2007 1:03:59 AM)

I love learning new things, and once on the path, I totally get into it. Last summer, I was looking for something to do, so I learned an advanced style of matrix mathematics that can be used in statistical work for the social sciences. This summer, I'm probably going to learn the guitar. I wish I had a mistress for whom I could learn things, but that hasn't worked out for me, so right now, I continue to learn new things for myself.

lytehaze -> RE: Do you like learning? (5/24/2007 1:23:10 AM)

I love learning new things. He's really fond of the idea of being well rounded, kind of geisha style I guess. I often have to learn new skills. Sometimes it's overwhelming budgeting spreadsheets, bellydancing, etiquette classes, cooking, etc. But in the end I'm happy I've learned a new skill, am better at serving Him and I'm ready for the next challenge.

minnetar -> RE: Do you like learning? (5/24/2007 11:03:04 PM)

i love to learn but does that mean it has to be a craft or a skill?

dummey -> RE: Do you like learning? (5/26/2007 2:43:16 AM)

I would encompass things outside of crafts and skills such as current events. Like Calandra stated earlier, a large portion of news that we get is through media which tailor to increasing ratings. This means that even though starving children are dying every 20 secs, they don't get any coverage because a story about how another soldier from the local area was killed in the war gets higher ratings. So for me, I'd include a lot of things outside of skills, but of courses knowing doesn't do anything if you don't understand.

Elorin -> RE: Do you like learning? (5/26/2007 6:00:50 AM)

It would depend upon the skill. If he asked me to learn to do something that contradicted my personal morals, I wouldn't do it. Learning how to roll a joint is not something that would make me a more well rounded person, and since I don't do recreational drugs, I would object. However, Sir also makes his own cigarettes, and learning to use his cigarette machine and pack his cigs I would enjoy doing. (He doesn't roll by hand.)

Having said that, I will say that I doubt Sir would ask me to learn any skill that did specifically violate my morals. If I thought it likely, he wouldn't be my dominant.

I have learned more about massage since serving Sir, because he has chronic back pain Massage was one of my interests before I met him, but I learned more about it in his service out of love for him and desire to be pleasing.

While I already knew how to cook, I have learned a few specific recipes specifically for Sir.

I enjoy learning, sometimes for learning's sake and sometimes to become a more well rounded person. But learning that makes me able to be of more useful service to M is something that I crave.

Greetings all,

If a girl's Owner said to this girl 'there is nothing left to learn' this girl would think that the end of the world had come. The day this girl stops learning to improve and become a better slave to this girl's Owner will be the day that this girl will stop being a slave. To this girl being a slave is to strive for perfection, which of course doesn't exist lol. Its how this girl copes with the thoughtof there being nothing left to learn for a girl's Master.

Sweet wishes

Shantra -> RE: Do you like learning? (5/31/2007 7:22:39 PM)

This is a great thread!  I am currently still recovering from major surgery, so, with a lot more time on my hands not going to work I decided to learn some new skills.  I chose rug making and cross stitch.  I am working on 2 projects.  A rug for our Native American theme living room and a geisha girl cross stitch picture for our Japanese theme basement.  That way it keeps my fingers busy, expands my skills AND enhances Masters surroundings.

Before I go back to work I also want to get set back into my diet, begin to establish my exercise program, organise and clean the house (which I have not been able to do) and expand on my own cooking skills so that Master will get healthy food and more variety than he does normally.

I chose what I was going to do, but ultimately all of it benefits him.

behindmirrors -> RE: Do you like learning? (5/31/2007 9:26:31 PM)

I love to learn new things, and attack a challenge in this kind of area with passion! I really enjoy the sense of accomplishment I get when I know I have acquired a new skill I previously found daunting.

When my Master asks me to learn something, or seeks to teach me something I did not know, I am excited to gain the new knowledge. I am doubly pleased to know that not only have I bettered his life, but mine as well.

So, to answer the question that is the title of this post: Absolutely!

subiugo -> RE: Do you like learning? (5/31/2007 9:54:45 PM)

i am happy to have a Mistress who likes learning Herself. She is always reading some 30 books at the same time. And She likes educating other people too. She is the founder and the owner of Academy for slaves (open to male submissives). And as it is expanding, She has to tutor more Dominant Women to become a trainer. She personally is a great trainer too, and i had the honour to be trained by Her. So, She didn't teach me 'new things', She teached me my new personality as a slave. What i find very encouraging at this moment is that She really invites me to study the subjects She is interested in. Because She has the intuition She is a true Goddess, She does a lot of research into that subject (e.g. on the Goddess Isis and on Mary Magdalene). Although i was not 'into' that kind of subjects in the beginning, i now consider it a great opportunity to come closer to Her. As W/we both are learning on these subjects, we are 'equal' in a certain sense. But at the same time, it is a great way to feel Her dominance and to become more submitted to Her, because it is Her world i am entering. And by accepting step by step Her world, i become Her devoted worshipper.

So 'learning' IS a great experience for a slave, and depending on what his Mistress want, it can be a 'skill' or it can be 'studying a subject of interest'.

BoundDragon -> RE: Do you like learning? (6/1/2007 12:26:44 PM)

I have a new thought on this matter... & a much stronger feeling about it too.

He was down with me the weekend just past so we did a little bit of driving, he took me out for a meal etc etc. When we got back we both started to work on my car (we modify & restore vehicles). We were doing something I had never done before so HE was teaching me personally.

I have never felt so good as to work beside him & with him... and so honoured he'd take the time to share his knowledge with me.

Just thinking about it makes me all warm and snuggly inside.... I long for the next time
