They would have to give up smoking, I wouldn't consider a smoker period. They wouldn't be perfect if they have traits I couldn't stand.

Or on the flip side, the Dom(me) is a smoker and you as the submissive can not stand it, would you deal with it or move on?

We were hanging out with James's mom she excused herself to have a smoke, and the stink when she returned made my tummy flop about a bit, and James had to haul her trash in his car and simply having her  smoke drenched stuff in the car made his car stink for  the entire day. Her house stinks like smoke too. Her poor dog even stank like cigaretss when Ginger came to us.

I have asked this question in chat rooms and I am always sort of surprised at the answers I get.   You have met the perfect Dom(me).   Everything about him/her is near perfect except you are a smoker and he/she can not tolerate it and won't tolerate it, do you give the butts the old heave ho or pass on this Dom(me) and wait for one who smokes.   Or on the flip side, the Dom(me) is a smoker and you as the submissive can not stand it, would you deal with it or move on?
Just a FYI, I am a former smoker.

If I meet a dominant who is all that and a bag of chips who smokes, then yeah, I'd probably go with them.

But if I meet someone at the same time who is also all that and a bag of chips, guess who gets first dibs on my submission?

As an occasional smoker, I will freely admit - it smells bad, is bad for you and all those around you. I may or may not tolerate it, but there would be serious talks about him/her quiting.

livenlearn -> RE: Toss the butts or Pass on the Dom (5/27/2007 1:05:01 AM)

I don't smoke and growing up, I always swore that I would never date a man who did. Then I met my BF and all my good intentions went right out the window. He smokes and has since he was a teenager. We have been together for two years now; after the first couple months I stopped asking him to quit. It came down to either accept it or leave. I chose to accept him and his smoking; though he has compromised and no longer smokes in the apartment or around me.

MsSonnetMarwood -> RE: Toss the butts or Pass on the Dom (5/27/2007 5:17:24 AM)

I am entirely too sensitive to cig smoke anymore to even consider the possibility.   It doesn't matter if they don't smoke around me - it means that I can't go to their home, be in their car, and even have issues if they're wearing clothes that were in their home.

LightHeartedMaam -> RE: Toss the butts or Pass on the Dom (5/27/2007 7:32:59 AM)

I'm more important than a cigarette.  If they want me, they can "butt out"

Melissa smokes. I do not. I would dearly love for her to quit but I will not order her to; this is one thing she has to decide on her own. It bothers me health wise, but other than that, I have no issues with it. I will say though that she does not smoke around me or in the house; she always goes elsewhere.

LOL Master is very good at making me feel guilty about the fact that I do smoke though.

Although he does allow me to continue, he does have some pretty strict rules in place about it. I am never to smoke around him, or in the house. If he is home, he does not excuse me so that I can go outside; and I have learned NOT to ask him for permission. If go somewhere and come back, he does not want to smell it on me at all.

I wish you well

I've been smoking since I was 13--27 years and I'm not all that enamored with it anymore.  I wouldn't make a promise unless I know can keep it, but I'd certainly consider it if I were involved with someone.

One smoker and one non-smoker adds an element to the relationship that some can ignore, some can tolerate, and some find "just plain nasty".  It depends on the two in the relationship - so if you, as a former smoker, don't want to be around the smoke anymore you should probably pass on the Dom.  If he is knowledgable enough and considerate enough, he will know all the pros and cons of smoking and may offer to do all that he can to keep your environment as smoke-free as possible (but that would mean you probably don't scene in his house where he smokes - which may be the deal breaker for him).

lateralist1 -> RE: Toss the butts or Pass on the Dom (5/27/2007 8:37:47 AM)

I always discuss my smoking with a sub very early on.
If he can't cope with it then we pass on the relationship.
I couldn't make someone put up with it.
Luckily lots of subs enjoy a Domme who smokes.

I was beginning to feel alone in the world.  <laughs>

Unrepentant1 -> RE: Toss the butts or Pass on the Dom (5/27/2007 9:25:32 AM)

As someone who does not smoke and who lost both his parents to smoke related illness, I would obviously prefer a non smoker as my Domme. That said its not a deal breaker and my sister being a smoker does not mean I love her any less, though I may nag her to death, lol.

Domspaintoy -> RE: Toss the butts or Pass on the Dom (5/27/2007 10:44:03 AM)

Each to their own isnt it, but i think if He had smoked i would've asked Him not to smoke whilst with me or make it a hard limit lol.

i smoked for 24 years and was quite a heavy smoker but i stopped over a year ago. Master didnt ask or tell me to stop smoking He was subtler than that but the threat was there that i would suffer if i didnt stop lol

Have to say, the difference to my health, the way i look and smell has improved immensely and ill never go back to being a smoker, i dont know what possessed me tbh except that lil nicotine monster!

lapresence -> RE: Toss the butts or Pass on the Dom (5/27/2007 2:45:06 PM)

I've been with a smoker for one night and I ended up with a lung cold.  I couldn't be with a smoker, plain and simply.  It's a filthy habit, plain and simple.  [sm=ugh.gif]

maledave7 -> RE: Toss the butts or Pass on the Dom (5/27/2007 3:13:17 PM)

I used to smoke and gave it up about 21 years old. I would say it is not easily to quit, but it is worth the effort.
Some of my family members still smoke and I go over to their house for the holidays. I do wish that they would give up smoking.
I can smell the smoke on my clothes when I get home. I do enjoy having a house that is smoke free.
I do desire to find a Domme that is a non-smoker.

About 20% of smokers can't stop. Their addiction levels are much stronger than the other 80%.

However to announce you can't stop unless you've literally tried everything out there is a cop-out.

Smoke-enders, acupuncture, hypnosis, patch, Zyban etc. Most of which can be done simultaneously along with a nutritionist's suggestions of how to do so with minimal weight loss. Set up the diet and exercise plan from the start and you won't gain much weight if any. Besides most people who quit only gain about 5 lbs.

chellekitty -> RE: Toss the butts or Pass on the Dom (5/27/2007 10:52:04 PM)

nicotine is not a mood or mind altering substance...i don't sell everything i have to get another pack - including myself- i don't stay out on the streets all night long to keep smoking, i don't have to check into a mental hospital because i ran out of cigarettes, i don't get into an accident from smoking a cig (well maybe lighting one while moving is dangerous) i can smoke just one and be satisfied - for an hour or so - ok, yea, i am addicted to the things but it doesn't have major effects on my life the way other things did...maybe eventually i'll be able to give up the cigarettes, but for now i am gonna be happy without drugs or alcohol...and i have turned down a relationship because the person wanted me to quit smoking...but he approached it in a i-was-broken-so-he-was-gonna-fix-me way...and i have been being fixed for way to long, accept me for who i am or move along....do i want to quit smoking? yea... $150 extra a month would be nice...am i willing to do it right now? nope...plus unlike some that have posted, i cannot eat if i am not smoking...my longest period without cigs since i started was about 36 hours...then the hunger won out and i got myself a pack...
did i answer the question??
