Sorry to hear that, Trapped! Anything interesting?

I'm doing a presentation on the portrayal of Xibalba, the Mayan Underworld, in Mayan art.

Kinda difficult, actually.

Hehehe...sorry...jaq...mebbe if you got me drunk enough?

Sounds both daunting and intriguing. If memory serves, the Maya had a fairly grim view of the afterlife, at least for the common folk.

Well, considering their day to day life was composed of human sacrifice, ball games that led to murder and bloodletting (people would pierce themselves and let the blood flow to nourish the gods - the higher up you were in class, the more blood you gave), I would fathom that the underworld was peobably not so pleasant.

But, I think Heaven was nice....

I'm not sure if they had a heaven. I remember thinking it was a bummer to be an ordinary Maya--slogging through a hard life without even a better one to look forward to. But I'm no expert on this.

Is there PowerPoint involved in your presentation?

Yup.  For a 45 min. presentation...I am not sure how many slides I should have.  I usually average about 6 mins per typed outline page, and 4-5 slides per outline page, so I am thinking bout 30, mebbe?

They had a Heaven.  In their cosmos, they had 13 layers of heaven, 9 layers Xibalba, and the earth sandwiched inbetween with the tree of life, intertwined, its roots reaching down into the furthest reaches of Xibalba and its branches shooting up to the Highest celestial realm.

Welcome home, Linea! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you on the job front. It must be a bit nerve-racking not to know if you're working tomorrow.

Wow, that's quite an elaborate cosmology. Fascinating!

It doesn't inspire confidence, I agree.

oh my, i wish!  but i really was speaking of my next incarnation in this life.  so far i have been a bartender, waitress, dancer, ward clerk, admitting clerk, surgery scheduler, office manager, inside sales rep/customer service rep & a truck driver.  i'm really hoping to go back to something inside & sort of clean.  i'm just stumped on what i should be looking for.

please note that i am trying to clean up my typing act by using appropriate punctuation.  next i may completely throw caution to the wind & try capitalization.  i really got into a bad habit of not capitalizing when my hand was broken & it was very difficult to push the shift key.

my two all-time favorites were surgery scheduling & inside sales/customer service rep.  unfortunately, surgery scheduling jobs are rare, since there are only 1-2 schedulers per hospital.  so i've been looking more in the customer service field, but i need to make more than the aerage $11 per hour they're offering.  i also enjoyed the office manager job.  it was challenging & interesting.
