I don't know how many of you will go and watch this, but since it will probably end up as the blockbuster of the year, I thought I'd write a very short review.

The film was excellent! It was much darker, with a better and more conclusive story line than the prior two prequels.

For me, the only negatives were that it was a little slow at times and General Grievous didn't quite live up to all the notorious fan fare. I had read that they had strongly considered using Gary Oldman as the voice behind Grievous, and in my opinion they made a huge mistake in not doing so.

What caught me off guard was the very subtle political message that was imbedded into the film by Lucas. I've never seen him do this before in any of the past Star Wars films, but this one was very deliberate. I will not disclose the message or give you my perception of it, but it would be very interesting to hear what some think after they watch this film.

I heard a review of the film on NPR last night, which wasn't completely complimentary. The reviewer DID excuse a lot because it was Star Wars <VBG>

He DID mention the political message you speak of and I for one can't wait to go see the movie!!! But it's going to wait until the crowds thin out a bit I think LOL!

Thanks for your comments about it. Hopefully real soon I'll be able to join in in a more informed way (translation: when I see it I'll share my opinions too!).

Is it worth seeing if I skipped the last two movies? I did see the first three of the series (with decreasing enthusiasm).

Honestly, I like my scifi messageless. It's what I watch to escape from reality for a few hours, not what I watch to see the current poltical issues debated, only with light sabres.

Okay, we saw it last night. I liked it from a sheer "great special effects" viewpoint, as well as for me it brought the whole saga together. The "message" wasn' that subtle, IMO. I wonder how much of the the rest of the world sees the US as the Empire and Dubya (that asshole) as Darth Vader... figuratively I mean.

It's unfortunate that the message was there at all, or had to be. But that's just my opinion.

I think I need to go see it again <VBG>

From the standpoint I am at. What would you do if you were me? In the 70"s when Star Wars first came out. I was busy with school and track..and a few other things like growing up. I remember the trailers back then. Sci Fi was'nt really my thing.

Never seen it. Still haven't seen it. However my dom is into it sort of. Should I see the first 2? I believe. Or would just going to this one suffice?

As far as the "message" of the movie goes, bear in mind that most of the story has been predetermined for years, and substantially predated the current administration.

Hi Gloria...

My son is turning into a star wars fan, and hasnt seen any of the films (he is at that age now)... so , he hadn't seen any of the films. So I asked my friend, the self titled 'Starwars nerd' Siamsa what was the best thing to do...

She said that although the two sets of three films are linked, its not important to see all six or in any order, other than the three latest ones. They are related, but no biggie to see all six together. And as for seeing all three of the latest? - If you gather the genral story - you can see them as singular films - its just the charachters that might throw you off if you don't know how one relates to the other is all.

Peace and Love

I thought there were 3 total. So..the movie that just came out has 3 in it or are there 3 movies coming out?

The last three movies that came out were episodes 1 through 3. Episodes 4-6 came out between 1977 and 1983.

I saw the political message that lingered throughout the film, but as the story has existed long before W. took office, I think this is perhaps an example of life imitating art, rather than art imitating life.

All of the movies have had some slight political edge, after all it was about overthrowing the galactic empire. I think in terms of filling out the Jedi role in society and how the plots of the previous movies have woven together, it was necessary to make the political issues a key plot point.

I thought it was a cool movie, I'm a geek and most of my friends and lovers are geeks too so it's a must-see for us. I wasn't convinced of Anakin's full turn (too much like a Charmed episode) but the overall effects were very cool and I definitely got into it.

Two things I thought interesting to note are that, a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, that they don't have perfect temporary birth control and that a senator cannot also have a baby out of wedlock.

Sadly, America is forced to be the 'Empire'. When there was no world police, look at what happened- Austria was overrun by the Germans, Italy marched through technologically inferior Ethiopia. Japan also raged. No body stoped them- and now our present condition is partly, a result of waht came from inaction...

There are 10 books in the original Star Wars series. Thats where the episodes get their names, they're book numbers. The books had been out for years before Lucas transformed them into films. Episodes 1-3 are based on the actual first 3 books. 4-6 are alternates that Alan Dean Foster created for Lucas's movies, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.

The original book series featured Han Solo as the main character. Lucas loved the story, but thought that the Jedi were a more imposing theme than a space pirate like Solo for cinema. Alan Dean Foster (Foster wrote the original 10 books; his only original work. Foster is famous for transforming screen plays into novels...) came up with Star Wars Episode 4 for Lucas, beginning his story from the end of the original book 3. This alternate version completed the character of Luke Skywalker, whose story is not a central theme in the last 7 books of the original series. Star Wars was a hit, and the other "ghost" movies followed.

The political message in Revenge of the Sith is about 40 years old...

Hmmm, I see the United States as the Old Republic actually. I see some members of our Senate as sith lords and some as jedi masters.

Wonder how long we have till the empire really does take charge as in the forming of some World Republic. Speaking of, the Euro Union looks like it has been set back a bit.

I would love to know. Mr. Lucas is known for some of his political views. Same was thought about Roddenberrys Star Trek ya know!
