I suggest you not take your own personal experience with one switch and apply it to an entire population of people.

Switches are their own person, and each one is going to be similar or different from others.

What you end up with in a relationship (my opinion here) is what is negotiated in good faith by both parties. And renegotiated in the future.

I am a switch. I came out into the lifestyle online first. I have been RL for three years. I spent nearly two years trying to bury the submissive in me, because I was told I was not "a real Domme" if I submitted to anyone. Switches have a unique set of needs. I am Domme about 80% of the time. When I do submit it is usually only sexual submission, although I do venture out of the bedroom on occasion. I can not submit to just any Domme, she has to have a certain charisma, a certain way about her. She definately has to lean toward the butch side. It's not easy being a switch, because many in the lifestyle don't understand it. For My own self, I think having a r-ship with another switch would work best. Someone who is mostly submissive, but occasionally likes to Domme. This is My take on it, your milage may vary....

I would venture to say that being a switch it threatens those who are not truly comfortable in their lifestyle affiliation, and seek to beat you down to prove to themselves that such a thing (identifying with both ends of a flogger) is possible.

To paraphrase, the problem is not that they dont understand it. The problem is they do
understand it all too well and it frightens them because of what it signifies to their inner demons.
