Greetings,

Chest thumping pissing contests regarding just about any topic, which would coincide with age old rivalries and animosity that just grows stale.

Sincerely,

kimberly

My votes for continual topics--

Who is/isn't a slave/Master?
BDSM vs. Gorean
Bizarre hypotheticals
What IS Gor?
How can you build a life around a set of fiction?
Out of control/inappropriate slaves
Blustering, overbearing "Masters"
Discussions/accusations about "online-isms"
Gorean = Strong conservative/Bush supporter
The death/decay/degradation of Gor
Any discussion starting "What should a slave do?" that's destined to end with "Listen to her master."
The role (if any) of free women, Dommes, slaveless Masters in Gor
The military
Gun ownership
Drama from this house or that
Choosing a Master/slave
Getting a Master/slave
Whether John Norman is a visionary or just a bad fiction writer

This is, of course, just a partial list of what we continually see.

What else?

Tim

*laughs*

The day after the above post, with this thread still on page one of the board--a new BDSM vs. Gor thread appears. Some people don't even read what's right in front of them, let alone take the time to read back and learn. No wonder they're confused, and no wonder other people don't want to answer them anymore! Waste of time. Even when she got her answer, she didn't like it.

*shakes head*

Hello Tim,
Most people really don't want an answer or they only want re-inforcement of their own opinions.  It seems to be human nature, not just a problem here on the boards.
A few times in my "on the road" days I recall listening to talk radio and Dr. Laura. Now, I do not like the woman at all but one of the things that amazed me is how she would give advice and people would argue with her! She was and is really good at getting to the meat of the matter. People would hear what she had to say and start sputtering....it was funny to hear. They really, most of the time, just wanted to hear that their own actions were the right ones, or how other people had wronged them.
I see a a lot of that here.  Most people just want agreement.
I wish you well.
Y

Greetings Y,

I agree with you on this. I call it justification of self. It is what I consider to be part of self deception. If someone has a desire to have someone else add justification to their actions, then there is often a problem with those actions. Those actions should be more closely examined, introspection, and the person should apply their code to them. Where there is a deviation between their code and the actions, they should then look to see if it goes against one of their foundation principles. In this way we can learn to grow and improve ourselves.

As has been mentioned before, when someone ask "What is Gor?" or any variation, they are showing their laziness.

Those who wish for knowledge rarely gain it, but those that truly desire it, knowledge will find them.

Orion

ygraine and Orion,

I'm afraid you're both probably right. I even see this in fellow academics. I certainly see it in students.

Tim

[edited to add a P.S.--Several of these "seekers" seem to be BDSM folks essentially baiting Goreans, and the Mods tolerate it, while stopping us when we bitch back. At least it seems that way sometimes. To be fair, I sometimes see Goreans throwing their weight around on the BDSM side, and I don't like to see that either.]

P.P.S. Orion, nice to have you back.
