It seems that a new style of quoting has arrived at the collarme message board. In this new style of quoting, it is often stated that "oh I just always click "Fast Reply" (and didn't mean to include a block of qoted text from another post in my Fast Reply... it just magically appeared)". What the heck is all that about? I don't particularly like this new adaptation of "quoting", and I'm seeing it becoming more and more prevalent here.

Hypothetical:

"A" posts a thread about nose picking
"B" replies that it is fun, but disgusting
"C" replies to "B", but QUOTES "A" in their reply to "B"
"B" replies, informs "C" their QUOTE is misdirected
"C" replies, informs "B" that they("C") are infatuated with the "Fast Reply" button and it's "just their way"
"D" replies to "B", quoting "C", and states they find it easier also, and less confusing
"A" replies to "D" asking what is disgusting about "B"'s reply
"E" replies to "A's" new reply to "D", asking where "D" states nose picking is disgusting
"B" replies to "E" telling them they agree
"F" replies to "B's" reply to "E's" reply to "A", saying they know "C" and "C" would never nose pick
"G" replies to A", asking that the thread get back on topic

What is wrong with this picture?

Point of emphasis:

If you are already at the particular reply you intend to "quote", why Cut & Paste the text, then scroll up to go find the Fast Reply" button and click it? Doing it this way seems to be like going around the elbow to get to the thumb. Why not click the "Quote" button in the post you are Cut & Pasting from? That way you dont have to create/insert the brackets and quote/unquote around what you quote, in a reply to another's often unrelated post.

Is there a method to this madness "new quoting methodology"? What is the benefit? Why reply to me and quote somebody else, or quote me in a reply to someone else?

Sheesh! If you wish to quote me, then reply to me and quote me Dammit!

Good post and entertaining. Instead of using the quote button, if you only want to quote an excerpt then hilite the excerpt and click on "reply" to that poster. In some posts i can't tell what the poster is saying vs. what they are replying to.

I like it. I didn't know it worked that way, either. Thanks!

I've been using the "Quote original" box and editing as necessary. I often quote from other posts but usually attribute it to the poster. An example would be:

quote:

ORIGINAL: MizSuz

This is a test example of a quote

Followed by someone else posting:

quote:

ORIGINAL: fictious name

This is a test example of a quote

Your way is much quicker, but you'd still have to add in the original poster information.

I used the fast reply button, it wasn't faster, and I can't see the difference.

They need to change the name of that to the Same Speed As Before Reply button

And now this is the regular non de-caf reply button. Why are there two ways to reply and no one can tell the difference between them?

Oh do I smell conspiracy

Clearly the regular reply button is the bitch of the fast reply button, but they are identical, but the fast reply button thinks it's better and faster and more neato-er than the old regular Vanilla reply button.

Ok, I have HAD IT!

These reply buttons are exactly the same!

Why why why are there two buttons???????

What sick mind came up with this "feature"?

This is as dumb as having two redundant things...like testicles....

oh...wait, that wasn't a good example.

It's as dumb as tits being in pairs....

no, strike that too, or should I say, two.

Still, it's dumb, as dumb as writing about it all damned day as if you were bored and typed just for the sheer joy of it.

Ok, now I am pissed.

Look how these buttons use us!

We're fools!

We only think there's a "fast reply" button, but it isn't fast, it's just a reply button.

I have proven this faux-hood, this sham, this travesty, this fraud, and does anyone care?

Fuck no.

Oh life is cruel.

I am so right.

This is the fast reply button thingy again. I notice it doesn't make me type any faster. The net didn't speed up. No matter what I do, it's the same speed.

It's just so maddening, so frustrating, so incredibly obviously a conspiracy designed to drive me crazy into a mad rage of ironic applied logic that I'm just gonna snap any fucking second now!!!!!!!

Ahah!

I figured it out!!!!

Don't worry, now that I know they out to make me insane, I won't let them get me, oh no.

I calmed myself just to thwart their sick twisted "fast" reply headgame.

Oh yeah, I'm too smart for them.

Hahahahahahahahaha!
