The suggestion to read Guy Baldwin's article was a suggested starting point. There are also many other resources to look into as well as people in the community to talk to...

I posted what I posted because so many people seem to be rejecting the idea of "Old Guard" just because some people claim to practice it who may not have a clue as to what they are doing. Regardless of how one may feel about the inaccurate and inappropriate usages of the term, the OP simply asked what it was and seemed to be looking for information. I was trying to suggest some places where she might start her research. As have a few others. I don't find it very helpful to point out how some people have just gotten it wrong.

Perhaps you could also point out some resources from the research you have done. That might be very helpful indeed.

Want good reliable history of BDSM in the US there is a doctorate thesis that I think is on the Leather Archives and Museum, ("Located in Chicago, Serving the World"  LOL those who get it will laugh).
Robert V. Bienvenu II, Ph.D.I have a CD copy myself and it's scholarly reading to be sure. But it is also the best researched history I have found.

He's also writting a book on the same subject.

I agree his is very thorough, though he is a distinct person/entity from Leather Archives and Museum.  If anyone is interested, his dissertation can be downloaded/more information can be found at:

Old Guard is a line of Aftershave, Cologne and deoderant marketed for men.
Old Guard is the poster child of Father's Day Gifts.
