Hi All

I hope everyone can help with this. What would you consider to be pros and cons of induced lactation? Not I love it or it turns me on, but real pros and cons.

I hope to hear all your opinions and comments

Voltare -> RE: Induced Lactation (2/4/2004 1:43:28 PM)

I think anytime you attempt to modify your body unnecessarily, you run risks of (insert standard surgeon general's warning.) Having said that, my understanding of induced lactation is that it really can only be done through specific medications aimed to do just that, and that getting a perscription for these drugs isn't the easiest task.

It's not my place to suggest why it's right or wrong, but the reason for inducing lactation should play a role. If it's truely something important to you, consulting your doctor (and making sure he/she has your full medical history) would be the best thing you can do.

Luna,

I've done a fair amount of research on this, including discussions with a registered lactation specialist. As voltaire suggests there are two drugs that are predominantly used, though one has enormous side effects including severe depression and definately is not worth the tradeoff imho. The other drug regulates the hormone that induces milk production (and orgasms) but her recommendation is for an herbal tea (cant recall the name of it right at the moment) as a good alternative.

Now...to your question, pro's and con's. Only you and your partner can determine the pro's...the cons are worth a good deal of consideration if this is just a short term geewhizlookwhaticando kind of kink. It takes considerable time and patience to induce lactation, and in addition to the drugs it will most likely be necessary to put yourself on a regular pumping schedule several times daily. This is not only inconvenient..but i would suspect down right annoying after the first few days with little or no results. Its a dedicated effort, make no mistake about it.

Assuming you want to go through this hassle..then there's the issue of maintenance, and of course real life. You cant just stop pumping, nor can you *turn off the flow* so to speak because your partner doesnt feel like dealing with the lactation that particular play session. You also have the same issues nursing mothers have, leakage, soreness, etc...just ask some of your co-workers who have to carry those kits to the ladies room several times a day......btw...pumping kits arent cheap, just check ebay. Best of luck with your decision.

PostScript: The herbal tea is called Mothers Milk tea....the herbal supplement is fenugreek. In the interest of not promoting drug use, i will refrain from naming the two prescription drugs. As with all supplements, herbs, etc...please consult with a pharmacist for potential drug interactions or side effects or other health risks.

cons:

hormone imbalance
possible sore or cracked nipples
time invested (pumping ever few hours 24 hours a day to get things going)
I am not sure about engorgment, but I am sure anything is possible and possibly a blocked milk duct (very painful and could lead to an infection which will need antibiotics to clear up)
Depending on what you are going to do with the milk expressed possibly food or med restrictions.
breasts that leak all by themselves so buy breast pads for inside your bra, you might need to sleep in a bra as well (risking leaking in bed)

Pros:

making milk, need I say more?

Any questions just ask

My little sub produces milk naturally, but it is very satisfying for me and a turn on for her, besides being a mom with a baby to satisfy.

In the natural realm it is a sensational item, with a baby obtaining all the necessary ingredients to build them up for a healthy lifestyle, producing immunities, and comfort that nothing else can provide.

You are looking at tampering with this awesome system already in your body, dont mess it up, you may want to have children in future, your children will be at risk. It is not known how dangerous this will be for yourself, so why take chances and mess up ur body. Master Halston

If you buy a cupping set. These cute little suction cups that adhere to any part of the body. Use them daily twice a day for a period of about a month. I believe I read someplace for some people it took 6 weeks to do so. Although...I started producing milk playing with the cups twice a week.
Anyway....you can produce milk without any hormone treatment...its totally natrual. Men also produce. Now, I'm not 100% sure if the milk is the same as when lactating when carrying a baby.

However...one can produce milk rather easily if you really want to.

Hope that made sense...somehow it sounds to me like it may not have.
Been a stressful month for me...not always thinking 100% right now.

At one time, there was a document online from the World Health Organization that explained all about induced lactation from a clinical perspective. The motivation was to educate potential nurses in zones where catastrophe may have orphaned many babies. According to the document in question, many (perhaps most) women can be induced by following a routine of suckling at each breast for a few minutes, 3 or 4 times a day. The suckling will apparently trigger the production of the critical hormones. I do not recall there being any warnings of health risks, though there were cautions regarding depletion of calcium (among other things), as well as the usual warnings to eat more, and perhaps more often.

As has been pointed out here, there can be annoyances, such as leaking, or cracked nipples (but I've seen it suggested that application of mother's milk to the irritated nipple will both soothe and aid in healing), and if production is substantial, then disrupting the routine can produce discomfort (breasts too full can ache, I gather.)

On the pro side, the notion of the sub or slave producing food for her Dom or Master, and on a schedule she cannot control, is certainly attractive. ;) And it seems to me a profoundly intimate exchange, as well.

Hi! I'm 43 and have managed to re-lactate a bit. What I'm really looking for is a Dom that would love this kind of 24/7 relationship. Seems very difficult to find. ( I did so with regular pumping (a drag to be sure) and using a pill taken twice a day. It is easily availible by online Rx from Thailand. It is all natural and not hormonal like the regular drugs. It was given to Nursing mothers in Canada to enhance and promote larger quantities of milk to come in. )

Destinysskeins -> RE: Induced Lactation (9/3/2004 10:42:31 AM)

Greetings,

i really can't add anything to the how-tos of inducing lactation but as a mother who breastfed two children i can help with some of the things that are likely to occur during lactation.

For some strange reason it's been shown that fair skinned people have a much greater likelyhood to experience these difficulties.

Engorgement - This can range from a slight swelling and soreness to Dolly Parton/Madonna (think the pointy cone bra) proportions that are incredibly painful (i.e. you can't lie on your side because it hurts to have pressure on them, there's constant heat, pressure and pain in them, etc). Relief for this comes from alternating heat & cold applications to the breasts and pumping (though aggravatingly enough - the more you pump/feed the more milk your body produces and the more engorged you get!). Wearing a tight fitting bra during the period of time where milk first starts to 'let down' helps prevent this. Engorgement that is not treated or subside progresses to the next difficulty on the list.

Mastitis (sp) - Infected milk glands usually caused from clogged milk ducts associated with engorgement. Antibiotics are needed to treat. Complications from this progressing untreated range from the glands bursting (leaving an open sore on the breast) to serious health risk as the infection spreads to other parts of the body.

Chapped/Cracked nipples - Ranges from slight discomfort to extremely painful with pumping/feeding made very difficult. Rubbing breastmilk on the nipples and allowing to air dry does help treat/prevent this. Other ways to prevent this are alternating sides to start expressing/feeding from, alternating feeding positions (so that pressure is placed on different areas of the aureola and nipple) and changing breast pads often.

Leaking - Ranges from slight to copious. Leakage is usually very heavy as milk first starts to 'let down' - usually accompanied with engorgement. Expect to leak through breast pads (even if they are doubled) and to wake up during the night to change bed clothes, sheets, etc. Not sure if this would have the same pyscho-physical effect that is present during child rearing but my milk would start to flow just from hearing an infant cry in the store - perhaps other triggers might be watched out for if being used for play with a partner (i.e. no kissing my neck in public or my milk will come down)

And i'm sure there are many others but these were the most difficult roadblocks for me.

Well wishes

i must say, the thought of literally nursing at a Domme's breast is one that always brings a smile to my face...now i understand that there are drawbacks for the Woman providing milk...but there's something about the picture that seems amazing to me...it's not something i've ever done...but i'd think it would create an incredible bond between Domme and slave...maybe it's an unrealistic hope...but it is a hope.

Don't know anything about induced lactation but with cancer rates what they are I feel it unwise to take any drug you do not need to take...Mike[:'(]

kranberri -> RE: Induced Lactation (10/14/2004 11:07:25 PM)

i have had some experience stoppingand restarting lactation( although it has still never truly stopped altogether). One slight advantage i had was that i started on Depo birth control immediately after my child was born. Even after i stopped pumping 8 to 12 times a day (my child could not breastfeed but i was determined he would have breastmilk) and tapered off one pumping per day per week, i was able to renew lactation within 2 weeks whenever i wanted, even after being stopped for four months once. (Sorry about the giant runon sentence.) my son is almost six years old and i could probably make the effort worthwhile if Someone wanted breastmilk. If this helps A/anyone i am gratified to have been of assistance.

MsCharlotte -> RE: Induced Lactation (10/19/2004 8:22:49 AM)

Under the right circumstances, it is not necessary to use any drugs to induce lactation. Any female mammal who has carried a pregnancy to term or even near term can be induced to lactate simply with enough sucking stimulation applied to the nipples. (Note: "enough stimulation" will vary greatly from person to person, and will probably be more than you anticipated!) This is why in some more traditional societies grandmothers will commonly nurse their grandchildren! There are herbs that have been used for eons to increase breatmilk production, among them fennel, fenugreek, and blessed thistle.

Pros: if you lactate enough, your menses will likely stop until your milk production drops off. Your breasts will be at least slightly larger, and firmer. Milk production does cause increases in some hormones, most notably porlactin and oxytocin which have beneficial effects.
Cons: possibility of breast infection, discomfort, engorgement . Leakage may be occasional or frequent. When milk "lets down" many women experience a marked "pins and needles" sensation in their breasts -- I howver, found this pleasant!

Hope this helps.
