I love them and have two that I have been practicing with off and on for several months now, 9ft and 12ft. It will be awhile before I would even consider using them on a live target.........other than all the accidental owies I have given myself.

Note to all that are just picking one up.........wear something to protect your eyes.

I've seen a singletail demonstration and yearn for the experience. I wish to learn how to utilize the instrament, but desperately wish to have it used on me.

Yes i have been . Depending on the skill of the user, the feel can be anything from stingy to a burning intense sting. It can be made to feel like a light kiss that has a pinch to it, to a strong impact with the feel of lightning behind it. It does not always take a lot of space and yes there are a ton of Dommes that use a singletail , aka bullwhip. If you ever get the opportunity to feel one, please make sure the person weilding the whip is very skilled. I have seen so many subs and bottoms get hurt and never want to be touched with one again due to an inexperianced top.

There are many sizes and types of singletail whips, and those called bull whips are one variety. Most of the whips used in demos and scenes here in the US are dog (sled) whips, signal whips, or other variations.

The large whips often called black snakes or bull whips in historic times were used to drive teams of horses, mules or oxen pulling wagons full of freight or goods of various types. Since one can easily injure even an ox with one of these, the normal use was simply to crack it in the air to stimulate the critters.

Any 8 to 12 foot or longer singletail will take much longer to learn proficiany with than will the 3 to 4 foot ones.

A singletail can be used sensuously in many ways, and when one has practiced for six months to a year on pillows and other targets it can be used to inflict pain, welts,and cuts upon willing partners.

The "cracker" on the tip of the whip has to travel very fast to break the sound barrier and make that big "Krack". this also means it can be a dangerous item.

Using good eye protection is essential, you only get 2 eyes issued. Shooting goggles are good choices.

I have found that a leather vest helps protect against one's own miscues with the whip to an extent, as does a wide brimmed hat.

One very deniable and vanilla looking way to practice singletail throwing is practicing in the back yard with a fly rod.

Many I know CRAVE the singletail and heavy welts. Not me. I have experienced this, as one needs to do before trying a toy on others, but I also have played with Dommes who truly crave throwing singletails and whom I truly sought to Please... I can take it but it is not a favorite of mine. Giving singletail I like a bit better than getting it.

There are some GREAT singletail artists around, and I know three very good ones in the Midwest in or near Wisconsin who give nice demos.

In making many different toys I have also made some singletails. Often I make fairly sensuous ones.

I will also point out that casual users should be circumspect and stay with the 3 to 4 foot whip, them 6-16 footers, while magnificent, not only tear the hide off of you, they are damn rough on the light fixtures, dressers and mommas picture in the average american bungalows bedroom.

i would think you should be able to practice cracking whips in your backyard, there is entire "society" of people who crack whips for show and competion, just don't let your nilla neighbor know you are working on your aim so you can whip your partner...the whole inability to consent to a crime thing...

I've practiced for years with a single tail & won't often use it on anyone.  I find people tend to think they want it until after they've felt it.  I have a seven foot single tail I am rather fond of, and in the course of learning to use it properly, I have given myself a few good welts.  The best advice I can give is to have plenty of space, and preferably be outdoors or in an area with ceilings the height of the user plus the whip length and arm reach.  The user ought to practice, practice, and practice.

My Mistress is a bona fide expert with a bullwhip, she does all the parlor tricks with it (lighting a match, putting it out again, knocking a cigarette from someones lips, etc.  She uses it on me faily often, but more usually she will blindfold me and chain me up while she practices.  I get to listen to the woooosh CRACK! and wonder if and when it will land on me  After listening to it for several minutes, i get kind of used to it, and then when it fially does land on me, the shock is as bad or worse than the actual sting.

I know the HeadMistress of the Academy practised with the bullwhip but I haven't tried using it myself. I like using the crop and paddle. But I know what movie I love that has a woman using a bullwhip and that's Catwoman in Batman Returns. Oh how I love Catwoman!!!! Now that's pussy. ;)

Oh no joke that! I remember giving the shorter one a go downstairs when I first got it and decided that out in the open field was definately my practice ground. Another thing that I thought of when considering where to practice. Not on concrete (the patio) because I certainly didn't want to be dragging the whips back across it and scaring them. The same consideration for gravel. Nor do I take them out into the yard when the grass is wet, even though they are well oiled I am sure that excessive moisture would not be good for them.
My two whips are not of the best quality, they don't feel like they have been tightly braided enough. However they are good enough for me to get an idea. My thoughts were if I could get fairly decent with a relatively poor quality whip, once I got my hands on a good one I could really give it a go. The difference seems to be considerable coin and since I am not in no hurry to lay into human hide (cept for my own accidental owies) I may as well flail about with the less expensive things I got. Another thought, if a slave/sub should come along and really be excited about the idea......well then what better of a Christmas or birthday gift! In all seriousness, I don't have a burning desire to use one on someone, maybe yes maybe no. The satisfaction I get is rather like pistol target practice. Plus it is rather a good upper body work out.

I simply adore whips and flogers of all varieties. My favourite is my 6 foot bull whip.  Ive been using whips since I was very young and been using them on human targets for about five years now.  With practice Ive learnt to throw the 6 footer even inside my medium sized loungeroom.

Ive been using this same whip for a few years now and learnt to not only crack it as soft or as hard as I desire on flesh,  but also throw it and intentionally use the "wrap around" effect. For example to have my standing or kneeling spread legged facing away from me and run the whip in between his legs, to wrap around the chain connecting his nipple clamps, tug and flick it to release.  No actual skin contact.

Or when being particularly lazy using it to turn out the light switch from bed.

As every one has been saying practice is the key and for those starting out - be prepared to cop a few lashes of your own doing while learning.

A little off topic but kind of interesting I think.  I used to work for George Lucas and at almost every company celebration and event bullwhips would come out and folks would start trying to learn from the masters Lucas kept on hand.  LOL.  So if being bull whipped is your kink go hang around Nicasio or Marin County near Lucas offices.
