In addition to no caffeine, try adding soy daily. Cereal with a banana and soy milk is very healthy although boring for a daily breakfast or evening snack. I found soy milk very helpful in lowering night sweats and hot flashes. Although if you are on thyroid meds be aware that a minority of women find the soy interferes with the synthroid.

I would also strongly suggest getting your hormone levels checked including a 24 hr urine test to see if you have elevated cortisol levels. I was experiencing many of the same symptoms then my cycle stopped. My docs to were saying early menopause or poly cystic ovarian syndrome. fortunately extreme chest pain sent me to the ER and in the follow up a CT scan was done. Not to scare you but it end up I have a very rare form of cancer a simple urine test would of caught it much earlier. While this is most likely not the case for you better to have the test and be safe.

misery loves company yes??  lol.  mood swings run rampant, although i only get the night sweats right before my cycle starts.  my whole life i was irregular and now every 28 days like clockwork it comes a calling.  i think the only benefit to this whole thing is that some day it will be over.  just think, no more bloating, cramps, cravings for salt, tampons. some days the alternative sounds like heaven :)

You may want to look at progesterone cream to help.  :)  Also, night sweats can be signs of rheumatoid arthritis.  If you are stiff in the morning (no guys....this does not mean you....lol) have trouble sleeping.....those can be early signs.

I can't wait for menopause.....no more migraines......lol

I dont think they can kill you...just make you wish they did!

I have no remedies..I'm just hanging on trying to get through this crap.

I do however find that whipping some poor soul does bring some relief

for a short time. Thank goodness....for whips....and oh yes the worms to use them on.

Im only 27, and I get the massive cramps, the sore breasts, the mood swings, the crying over nothing, the sore lower back...days that I just wanna crawl in a dark room with a heating pad and midol. Unfortunantly, for me...according to my gyn, its just a bad luck of the draw. And Im adopted so there's no way to look at family history. I bleed heavily for about 7-8 days a month, but the symptoms start several days before the bleeding.  Ive also noticed for me, that my pain tolerance is significantly lower during these times of the month.

ok...i'm really old, so i can give you the good news:  i tried HRT & talk about a mood swing!!  sheesh!  then i used a Metagenics product called Fem-Estro which worked great on the symptoms...when i moved to WA state, that was very difficult to get hold of, so i just went cold turkey...after awhile of getting upset & railing against the immovable object that was the menopausal symptoms, it occurred to me one night that the hot flashes never lasted more than 5 minutes & after each was over, if i just accepted it as a part of my world, i was much more mellow...the hot flashes became fewer & farther apart till now i may have one just as i'm falling asleep...

one thing to remember is that during a hot flash, your adrenaline level increases which puts you into that "fight or flight" mode...if you can calm yourself during that time, it will be so much easier to deal with...once i discovered that, my life became so much easier...changing clothing & bedding due to the sweating can be a drag, though & definitely increases the amount of laundry you'll be doing...

my other piece of advice is to see your doctor to find out exactly what's going on before assuming that it's perimenopause...good luck!

I started into peri-menopause when I was around 37, and suffered for a few years until I found an holistic physician.  She has helped me tremendously.  The biggest thing that I think helped was being put on Prometrium, a more natural form of progesterone.  The hot flashes, night sweats, irritablity, etc all subsided considerably, and rarely come back.

Also, reducing/eliminating all caffeine, sugar, salt, and white flour products help alot too.  The sugar and white flour products seem to fuel the hot flashes.  Recently, my doctor gave me reading material on estogen dominance, which also factors into diabetes.  Im not sure what I believe about that, as Im still learning about it.

I tried helping my body by eating more soy protein, but that really backfired on me.  For women with poly cycstic ovary syndrome, the body doesnt identify plant estrogen proteins as being proteins. I dont quite understand it, but the soy products made the peri-menopause symptoms much worse, they shot my sugar levels through the roof, they raised my cholesterol level, etc.   NOT my best decision LOL

Good luck with your symptoms. As others have suggested, I also think a visit to a gyn would help.  Also, depending on your beliefs about health and wellness, try a holistic physician.  They often have more options that dont cause side effects or more problems down the road.
