On Friday (June 8th), I got to meet an online friend who I'd been chatting with for months. WinnieLatexTV was my very fun and gracious host for the weekend of South East Leather Fest. I also briefly met Lady T and Mistress V, who seemed very genuine.

We went to 1763 on Friday and to the cookout and pool party on Sunday. Saturday was latex night for the two of us; Winnie caused QUITE a stir upon arriving at the play party. Of course [for me], no trip is a success without some good shopping. We took care of that with a trip to the Achella vendor booth and one to Little Five Points.

I'm sure I met or saw some other CollarMe members this weekend. Please post or write if our paths crossed. :)

Archella makes the best toys, doesn't she?  I brought home the knotted purple and black flogger that was in the middle of the main display.  I had it with Me most of the day Sunday for the workshops.

While I didn't get to meet you, (missed opportunity, maybe next time) it was a great event.  I did get to meet Archer and his elegant.  They are just fantastic, btw.  I hope you had just as much fun as We did.

It was nice to meet LadyPact, sorry it was so much a "Just in passing" manner for the most part, the weekend for us was so full of obligations to be places and such that actually meeting folks for more than a couple minutes was impossible.
That said we did make great contacts for going to other events and presenting on the things we do.

Archer, with the schedule that you two seemed to have, I was quite pleased that you even had time for hello at all.  I wish we could have made the whole three days, instead of just two, but we all know how scheduling conflicts arise.

I am glad to say that I met quite a few from collarme at SELF. It was easily one of the best times I have ever had in my brief, but eventful life. It was my first leather event and if that's what I should expect from all leather events, then the next events I go to have some big shoes to fill.

Yes they do! I have their suspension cuffs in pink and black and love them. This last weekend at SELF my Joe bought us a Dragon Tail that we have been coveting for some time now.

We also saw and stopped to see Archer and Elegant at their vendor booth, and Daddy said there will be a new flogger added to the collection very soon!

SELF was a blast and hopefully next year we will get to stay for the whole weekend and I will get to meet more kinky people.

The suspension cuffs were beautiful work, weren't they?  They would have been an instant sell if I had someone to put in them.

Perhaps if you volunteered to help at SELF you could volunteer for the other fun stuff also.

Michael,
You can continue to whine in self pity or you can actually look into some of the many suggestions people have given in the past. Here are a few options:

1. Greyhound has a round-trip special=$54.
Taxi from your place to the Columbus Greyhound station and return=$20

Volunteer to help at SELF. 14 hours over the course of the weekend and you don't pay a dime for registration. ($135 savings)

Hotel room (shared is easy..people were begging for room space this year). Total for you if shared with one person=$80

That's $209.00. Add in another $75 for food and a toy from the Vendor Market for a total of $284.00

SELF '08 starts on June 13, 2008. Thats 363 days away. Save 78 cents a day and you could actually attend.

2. Join the SELF Yahoo group that someone suggested to you last month. Post a request for a ride and/or room share. I know of at least six people that came from Columbus.

3. Continue to whine and gripe.....it seems to be a fetish for you.

Take her advice, Michael.  Not only is she a true gem, but she's absolutely right!

It was a pleasure meeting you, Elegant.

i get a little over $600.00 a month, rent takes about half of that, electric, cable (phone, cable and internet) take the rest...so, you see...i cannot afford that amount of money. SSI/Disability barely pays anything.

Can it Michael.....literally.Get off your can and collect some cans.J. T. Knight buys all types and grades of non-ferrous and ferrous metals.  http://www.jtknight.com/

If you truely want to go to one of these events or activities you will find a way.

I know....I know....You prefer to whine and complain.

There's a homeless guy here in the SOMA area of SF who has literally put his kid through college with the cans and bottles he's collected. He goes around every morning, afternoon, and evening along the miracle mile of bars, clubs, and restaurants and bags up the cans and beer bottles from the bars.

Or like my 52 year old slave boy who is also on SSI/Disability does, he found a benefactor in the community to loan him what he needs and pays it off on a weekly basis. He volunteers for the event itself, takes every rideshare possibility imaginable and finds people to share rooms with. His income is $807/month. He pays $500 in rent, $100 on food, $50 on meds, $30 to me for his cell phone, $20 month for leather activities like LLW, LLC, IMsL, Bootcamp, etc. The money he has left over is used for clothing, laundry, toiletries, etc. If there is money left over, he offers it to me out of respect, but I just take it and apply it to the loans he receives from his benefactor. We're working on him learning some skills so that he can earn some extra money on the side. He's picking up chainmaille pretty quickly. He's making leather and rainbow pride keychains for PRIDE, Dore Alley, and Folsom St. Fair. People will buy anything rainbow or leather there.

QUIT your bitching and do something about it.

I don't make much, probably about the same as you. I planned ahead and made it. It just takes some saving. Save up knowing that it's all going towards one awesome event.

Huh? I was distracted for a moment....I hope you weren't keeping your loose change in those swim trunks.

Anyway, michaelofgeorgia...it really might not be possible for you to go. Not everyone has the drive or motivation that was referenced in some previous posts, and of course I don't know every little detail about your situation. But do try. I might be willing to help out with a ride next year if it works out that you're reasonably close to my Mapquest-ed route.
