I got bored of it last year--after a while I though the protagonist and Roman really needed to get a room so they could work out their tensions in private--but maybe I'll tune in now and then to see how the second season is going.

I enjoy the character development and the relationships between the marriage partners...Im hoping it doesnt get too far-fetched and uber-dramatic as things unfold with Roman et al...
Regardless, I choose one show a season and this season Im back on the Big Love bandwagon.

Heather - my mom and I watch it together.  We started this tradition midway thorugh the first season.  We then watched the entire first season, in chronological order, so we could have a better feel for what was going on.  I like Chloe and if nothing else is worth watching, she never fails to deliver.  I just wish they wouldn't make her wear that unsexy compound garb.

I like it too and Im glad they moved it to Monday nights because I work a lot of Sunday nights.

I really liked how, in the season opener, when the first wife (cant think of her name off the top of my head...is it Bev?) left for a while, the second and third wives (Nikki and Margene) both independently voiced the sentiment that they did not just love and marry the husband, but the other wives as well. I thought that was really lovely and probably would come as a shock to people who don't get the whole concept of polyamory (in this case, polygomy)...maybe get people thinking, too.

I dont get, though, why they keep saying that their "lifestyle is illegal"...I assume he only married the first wife legally, so what does the state or federal government have to do with whatever other relationships they form? The women are not minors and they aren't on committing welfare fraud.

Yes, I agree, they are not living illegally.  Unless the husband went through civil ceremonies with the other two, and I don't think he has.  I liked the part where the third wife admitted that she couldn't be "married" to the second wife without being married to the first  wife.  And I also liked the way Nikki's mom when to bat for her with that nosy worker.  hehe  I was always under the impression that Nikkie harbored some sort of jealousy regarding Barb, but that doesn't seem to be the case as she was equally upset about everything.

edit for clarification

I don't know why everyone keeps saying it's illegal. I'm sure he is only legally married to Barb.

Maybe it's something to do with the kids?

I think it is more to do with the religious stand point of a poly relationship that is "illegal". Perhaps the wording is a bit off but i see the focus of it due to them living in Utah and dealing with the majority of LDS families there.  Also the clips of the news footage stressed, "underage" girls. The good thing about any TV shows it leaves interpertation up to the viewers.

We are enjoying this season already. We hope they concentrate more on the characters relationships within the marriage than the hoopla and revenge with Roman and his compound.

Roman is so creepy cool though.  With that young soon-to-be bride.
Anyway, did you notice what Nicki got for her anniversary gift?  A power tool!  That's so Nicki, she's always taking care of the mechanical stuff for the wives.

Yay! Im so glad other people are enjoying the second season too!
I just thought it was amazingly poignant the way the season opened with the wives affirming their commitment to the entire family and not just to Bill...and then when the anniversary episode aired and Barb and Nikki"the were discussing their perspectives on plural marriage and Nikki's wondering how the couple who "have just them" (meaning only the two of them) will manage through the difficult times when it's only the two of them...it was just beautiful and somehow thrilling that this perspective was being offered to mainstream society...whether or not poly is for any particular person, I think that these ideas were presented in a sensitive and creative manner already this season.
I really like how Nikki's perspective that LOVE is not enough onwhich to base a life commitment....man, oh man, how many people in our society are ready to hear that concept?

On many levels I believe that is true--- the popular, romantic concept of love is not enough to carry most couples (or insert your own multiple here) through all the changes and difficulties that life may present...I find it so exciting to find these valid alternative perspectives being presented in such an unlikely venue...and Im enjoying the fact that many of these ideas are so old-school traditional (how many of our great grandparents married for what we now refer to as "love"????) that they now stand out as completely alternative and even whacky...

Anyway, Im really happy to be tuning in for the season.

I liked the way that Nikki and Barb reaffirmed what the family means to them.  Nikki went to the aid of Bill's extended family, Nikki's mom helped her (although it wasn't right, it showed that Nikki was willing to go to her mom with her problems, knowing that some aid would arrive), and Barb skipping her class and preparing dinner (all of Niki's favorite food for her anniversay), because she understood what was truly important, and that her needs don't/can't always come first.  I also liked the way Bill acknowledged to Barb that he understood the sacrifices that she has made for the family.  It gave me goosebumps and I'm as far away from a poly-anything that anyone can be.

I watched every episode of the first season, only because I was convinced that it just HAD to get better.  Sadly, I was wrong.  The first season sucked.  And just like all the rubber-neckers on the highway that I'm always flipping off, I started to watch season two because I just HAD to see the headless body...well, I am pleasantly surprised that season two is better than season one, and hopefully it will continue to improve.

The mystery of the hymen, was it or was it not intact?

(okay, I'll try not to say anything else).
