Hi!

I'm a huge HUGE Big Love fan. I haven't mised a single episode since it began. The back story is key to a lot of the comments and questions presented here so far. From what I have gathered, hearing details offered in bits and pieces, Bill left the compound at 14 when his father threw him out (I think because his father perceived him as the biggest threat intelligence wise and goal setting wise) and his older brother Eddie left some time later, and only his little brother Joey stayed. ...snipped...

Happy Watching!
Karyn

I thought that Roman ordered Bill out of the compound as a young teen because he feared his heritage (his grandfather was one of or the original founder of the compound) and his father went along out of fear of Roman... This explains why Bill was able to get a seat on the EAB board so easily and why Roman works so hard to control him... oh, and Eddie is Bill's uncle not brother.

It is such a well done series so far.... I hope it continues that way

Bill

what did everyone think of last night's episode? it seems like they are heaping up the drama pretty rapidly, but that's tv for you. i didn't like how margene didn't want to immediately open up to her mother about the fact that she's in a poly marriage. and also how she failed to understand the poly concept that her mother is in essence her sister wives' mother as well. it was sort of sweet and sad how nikki got so attached to margene's mom...i hope that before the season is out they arrange some sort of reconciliation between nikki and her family, you can tell the ostracization is really getting to her. then when you think of the fact that she's not generally accepted or liked by people in general (like the catholic school thing and margene making the comment that ana could "grow" to love nikki)...it really makes me feel for her.

it sounds terrible but i was really hoping Barb would get knocked around a bit by Bill's dad, just something to take her off her high morality horse and teach her to stop meddling in other people's affairs.

I agree about Barb, I am so tired of her meddling and trying to fix everything for everyone.  And I would like to see some sort of reconiliation for Nikki's sake if for no other reason.  Margene's mom cracked me up, but the episode was so predictable, Margene's mom putting the moves on Bill, my mom predicted it and it happened one minute later.

It seems odd to me that you have that feeling about Barb-- she sure seemed reluctant to go to the compound and then once she was there she tried to leave, but then she felt like if she did she'd be abandoning a responsibility... and so she stayed until the brother showed up. (It seems I've forgotten everyones name.)

When she confronted roman she was taking back some of the power he'd taken from her by publically humiliating her-- she confronted her demon, literally, stood her ground and while her last response was non-verbal, it was firm.

I don't see her as meddlesome, I see her as someone trying to do the best she can given the circumstances that have been dealt her-- starting with her cancer and the subsequent embracing of "the prinicple" by her husband....

I pretty much agree with you, adventurous.  I love the show and all the characters have their strong points and flaws.  I like Barb, though.  I think I can relate to her more than the other wives.  As Bill's first wife, I think she must have had a lot of heavy-duty issues to deal with and accept than the other subsequent wives.  It was dishonest when she and Bill had that "affair" but I can understand why it happened.  It was like they were on a second honeymoon or something and their love for each other really got reaffirmed, I think.  But, of course, it was wrong to deceive the others and sneak around.

Something I've really learned from the show is that poly doesn't necessarily equal D/s.  I guess I just always kind of assumed that a man who has several wives would have wives who were all very submissive to him.  That is certainly not always the case with these wives.  $60,000 in debt???  Yikes!  The wives sometimes put alot of pressure on Bill that I just assumed didn't happen.  The show has been kind of eye-opening for me for sure.

Something I don't like is how both Barb and Nicki treat Margene like a child.  She is always walking in in the middle of a conversation they are having and being kept in the dark about what's going on.  They don't seem to give her any credit.  Makes me wonder why they ever added her to their family to start with.  She is pretty ditzy but they don't give her enough credit.  That episode where she climbed into the pool to be baptized was beautiful.  Such a pure heart!

Overall, I love the show.  I think it's a pretty realistic portrayal of how poly would be.  It's not all hearts and flowers and not all about sex, especially between the wives.  As a matter of fact, I think it's probably very realistic about the sleeping arrangements.  That episode where Barb and Nicki could hear Margene moaning and then she and Bill came to breakfast in their robes was a good one.  They got so worked up over that and the keep such a close eye - esp. Nicki - on whose night it is.  All that seems a bit restrictive and I'd say it's probably pretty representative of how things often go in r/t poly relationships - more about the details than some big orgy.

We don't have HBO so I've watched all the 1st season episodes on DVD.  Can't wait for these to come out as well.................luci

I am having trouble following as much this season, sometimes so many characters get me dizzy, which is why I only want 5 in my immediate family :)

I'd love to top Wanda though LOL!  It's a good season but not a great season.  I get characters from The Wire

On another note, it was good seeing Bonnie Bedella (sp) on this episode, I haven't seen her since Die Hard 2 or when she's with her nephew ("Mac" Culkin)

I think Barb needs to control her desire to fix everyone as well.  And I liked how Margene took to the idea of a fourth.  Kinda hot sex scenes too.

Wow,

I had my Monday fix and this week was so scattered! I can't keep up with who's crossing, double crossing, triple crossing, who's friends, who's enemies, and so on and so on...

I really enjoyed the way they settled the Benny issue, and the way the show concluded with him being welcomed into the holy realm of the men of their belief system, the Priesthood of believers.

I read several comments about wives submitting, in such a setting, and I think along the same lines as the original wedding vows practiced in most other Christian based religions - love honor obey - and how women either semi-ignore that promise when it is convenient to argue a point, or choose to leave it out of the vows completely. Anyway, the union of the Mormon polygamist in utopian terms means the women all agree and submit wholly to the man, but in reality, I think it is more like we see on the show.

The ending of tonight's episode was a total shock. I cannot imagine how the rammifications of that will ripple outward and affect all of their lives. Between all the cons going on, and money laundering, and family rivalries, not to mention law breaking, things are confusing, and will need a hot iron to unwrinkle the issues.

Looking forward to more, and ugh, a whole week till another Monday!
Karyn

Yeah, I could honestly do without the big drama, but I guess something has to drive the plot forward and keep people (other than those who prefer the character development and relationship aspects) watching.
Im kind of sad that Roman is dead. His character had begun to develop a little more fully in recent episodes. I guess that was so we'd care when he died...
I find the other cartel family quite interesting. They are a bit like a circus side show.

"Very truly yours,"

justheather, i swear i'm going to start ending all my phone conversations that way: "respectfully yours, Daddy's prop" lol

i'm pretty traumatized by the whole Roman thing as well. part of me is hoping some tv miracle occurs and he lives. in a perverted way i kinda liked Roman, and i was also kinda hoping that there was something to the incest overtones btwn him and Nikki....now we'll never know.

i can't believe Barb actually openly told Bill that she wouldn't accept a 4th wife. she's just going to end up isolating herself from her own family, because everyone else is true to the principle and to the family, whereas she still can't get over her fairytale fantasy of monogamy.

the sex scenes last night were nice...once again i related best to Nikki. how she was so disgusted and horrified that Bill went down on Margene...i would have had the same reaction! especially when she referred to Margene "emasculating" him by "forcing" him to do it! lol. and then when she smacked him on the head when he tried doing it to her...hehe...at least i'm not alone in my hate of cunnilingus. besides, i would much rather be a "very, very good girl" than a "bad girl" anyday.

DLP: I loved it when Bill asked Margene what she likes and she said "When you please me" and he said "That's naughty, Margene! You're a very naughty girl."

That was so hot.

Then when he turned around and told Nikki she was a good girl, I got hot all over again.

I still don't understand Barb completely. I think she is committed to loving Bill and the family, and what she said came out in a moment where she was feeling threatened. In the end, she did tell him she wanted him to take off two nights a month...for the sake of the kids. I wonder if her feelings about adding to the family have to do with the degree to which she sees Bill being scattered around trying to tie up loose ends everywhere and not because she is averse to more wives in principle.

I have to admit, I really dont think they are anywhere near stable enough right now to be bringing another into the fold. Dontchathink?
