...well there's always the humour section..........as for welcoming, the off topic section is something of a bear-pit, sadly some of us rather enjoy that

I would say that you have probably misunderstood some people, in the same way some people didn't get your humour on your other post.
Its a forum, not a club.  There are cliques sure, never a bad thing.  But why do you have the need to belong and be accepted (which is what your post is kinda pointing to) If you get bad vibes of people - remember this is written word only - the same way people might be seemingly unwelcoming is the same way your post might come across as humourless.
We can't see ya face afterall...
Just soak it up and gve it time - there aint no red carpets here...  more like a rug that might be pulled from beneath sometimes.

Peace

I do not think I replied to that thread, but hey, do not let it get you down... I have been flamed more times than I can count and will probably happen again before the month is out... I just don't care all that much...just let it roll off your back and have fun.. we are all responsibile for how we feel about things, if it isn't fun here for you, it isn't. If you have fun, great! As far as any circle... there is only one circle I belong to, and that is inside the circle of my Daddy's arms (yes I am missing him bad today so I am now posting mushy corny sub crap, next I will be whistling for my pink unicorn).

Take what you need from here and leave the rest....

Peace

as the one that wrote the "where do i get the decoder ring comment"-it was in response to you posting a thread that implied you were very upset over something that had happened on-line, and after several offered thoughts on it, you came back with i am not really that upset i was joking.

the original posting looked like (to me and several others that replied) like you were very upset.....since it was posted in the general discussion category and not humor, i took what you typed at face value....

i am so new on here, im sure my posts still have that newbie smell to all the ones that have been here a while.  some have disagreed with me on the my posts-and that makes me think and i either change my mind or agree to disagree.  but it makes me think and that is good.

So my faith in men ........

there is the original post you made and the replies to it made by me and others......i see nothing wrong with the reply i gave to you, given the tone you offered up in your original post, but i will watch and see what others say and may decide i was totally off the mark being a bit of a smart ass towards you........

sighs, wondering if she could have been wrong about something.......and patiently waits

Its not a case of being let in SW, or circles or cliques or whatever. There just comes a point where people get to know what to expect from one's posts and a perception of acquaintance with the person from familiarity with their ID. But its important to remember that just because we know their ID, it doesnt mean we really know them or that they know us and so we must keep a pinch of salt ready to hand as to whats written and especially who we might suppose is writing it.

I guess if there's any form of initiation, its by way of getting a good roasting or two or getting into a "healthy exchange of views" - one passes the test by not whinging and whining about how nasty everyone is it seems, and by persevering regardless. There's no organisation committee for such events, they happen quite naturally because posting here isnt as simple as it might seem and sooner or later we all say something that incurs ridicule or wrath, whether or not we intended to. The best bet is to read everything youre going to post, before you post it, to make sure its as clear as possible and not unnecessarily/inadvertently offensive. Humour in particular has to be handled carefully, as its more easily misunderstood than almost anything else I can think of.

The ultimate accolade though, and guaranteed to propel one to CM stardom, is to become one of the usual suspects, by way of getting at least 3 private mails from Moderator IX. I'm on about number 6 at the moment, though I lose count.

But youre right in some ways - there is a fair bit of ganging up that goes on; we're all only human after all. As perfect as I am, I too must confess to ganging up occasionally - troll roasts are such fun!

Having spent a deal of time over the past 8 years participating in chat rooms and on boards just like this I have learned a few things.

1. Not everyone is going to agree with your point of view.
2. Some do not see anyone else out there as 'real' which means they can be as nasty, rude and sarcastic as they please, because they can't see the effect it has anyway.
3. If you do not want to be speared, do not enter the arena.
4. Learn to use the 'ignore' feature and the little x in the red box, block is really great too.
5. (From Master) Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one.
6. Don't take everything personally.
7. Some will attack or argue with big words because they think it makes them look all clever, big and important.
8. The fakes, players and liars out there have given all the genuine and wonderful people out there a bad name by default.
9. Some people just love to nit pick and dissect till the cows come home - and sometimes they never do.

I hope that some of the above was useful to you.

ahh, you riled up the coven, simplewhisper, look out for the warts!
that stuff happens everywhere on the web, it's too easy to be nasty if your corns hurt, or the dog traipsed mud into the living room and there is a need to take it out on someone, sometimes it is just gentle pisstaking, but there is a "ganging up" tendency amongst those that see themselves as more senior in some way. best thing to do is say "fuckem" to yourself and grow a thicker skin, they ain't all nasty, but some can be! regards, from england, and good luck. you have to kiss a lot of frogs!!!

I wouldn't want to be part of a "circle" that would have me as a member, anyway.

Too damn late, you are a part of the inner most secret sanctum of CM posters, we even have a secret handshake and everything, didn't you get the memo? (please no one ask me how to do the secret handshake as it is something that really has to be seen as to appreciate its complexity and sophistication)

Oddly enough I never really felt that I ever needed to be "let in" around here.

Generally I just write with a degree of sanity and respect, I make a point of knowing what I am talking about, and dont make or take anything personally.

Just my own $0.02,

Dauric.
