Identify Theaft

This is a subject that is in the news almost daily.  As a matter of fact, we hear it so much that we become indifferent to it.
Well, I am sorry to say that I had my wallet stolen at work by a customer last week.  Within one hour, they wrote almost $200 worth of bad checks on my name.  Fortunately, my boss had me call the bank immediately.  I was in shock at that point.  At least I listened to her.  Because I notified the bank, they returned the checks as closed account.  I later had the police come into work and do a "statement" not a report.  My boss did a statement.  I took all of that information to the bank.   I will still have to go to the stores that took the check and show them that information.
I did not want to call the police because I only had $4.00 cash in there; however, I lost my drivers licence, ssn number and check book. I don't carry credit cards anymore.  Now, I don't carry SSN numbers or checks.  The only id I carry in my wallet is my driver's licence and debit card.
They can get the checks cashed at places who give checks back as receipts.  It was Walmart.
Just a friendly reminder to be very careful of where you put your things.  Identify theaft can happen to any of us at anytime.  I was at a different location with no security cameras.  If we had security cameras in that store, we would have caught him red handed.   I won't work at a location without cameras anymore.

Have an awesome day.
Regards,

MissSCD

I'm very sorry that happened to you MissSCD. I think everyoen has lost their wallet or purse at one time or another. I have NEVER carried my social security card because it says on the back to NOT carry it, so I don't.

Suggestion.. make a copy {enlarged if possible} of ALL your cards, from an back, library, bank, drivers licence, everythign that you carry in your wallet, and keep one copy at home in a safe place and the other somewhere else where it safe but that you can get to it.

This link might help, its the gov site on identy theft and has tips as well.  ... http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/idtheft/

this has happened to me as well, i am afraid.

my bank card was "compromised"
so there i am at ~shoppers~ trying to buy my transit pass, when the card reads declined. i check my balance and the automated voice tells me "all funds are on hold"
i can't get in touch with a "friendly banking officer"  as the lines are busy.

next day, i hear from the customer service agent. she explains everything, and i get a new card. apparently in the last two weeks i had my card copied. card number AND pin number/

they didn't know where or when, but they have software to pick up on any irregularities..

thank goodness for technology
