True Story!!!....Several months ago...When I was a sub....I would go to the airport with a ticket for the cheapest "one way" flight I could find...I would then have a friend walk over to security and discreetly point me out as the person that she overheard talking about that I had hidden explosives in my butt.  Needless to say, when going through security I would act nervous...Avoid all eye contact....I had previously applied some lube to my forehead....to give the appearance of sweat....And then I would simply wait for the sweet release of a free ass fucking, all on our Governments dime....Have you seen what these pro Dommes are charging nowadays?

lying little betch. You told me you didn't take it up the ass...and I wasn't even going to charge you for it.

It's caught fire and was discussed on one of the blogs I frequent here:
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/parenting/2007/06/travel.html#comments

The videos of what happened at the airport are here:
http://www.tsa.gov/approach/mythbusters/index.shtm

It does seem pretty clear that she just dumped the water onto the tile which is what really started things becoming an issue.

That is absolutely outrageous!  I'm sick of innocent people being treated like criminals for no reason.  I'm aware that security measures need to be tight, but in turn, we don't need to be terrorized by government officials or airport workers on a power trip.  Where the hell did judgement go in this day and age?

Minute and a half in? "See Empty Sippy Cup." looks like it to me.

Of course, since the "Plausible Deniability" factor is at work, "It's unfeasable to mic the KGB goons.".

The way it works is SHE gets the benefit of the doubt.

Gotta wonder how scared the TSA is, if they gotta go out of their way to slander her this way.

I have watched the videos and the footage is poor quality
without audio.  She is a professional woman who left the
Secret Service to raise a family.

According to Monica Emmerson she removed the cup to drink it
and accidently spilled the water.  Regardless as to whether
the spill was an accident or on purpose, there is a larger
question of why the security agents blew the whole incident
out of proportion.

Have we become so afraid of the invisible specter of a
terrorist that we must now harrass and threaten American
citizens who are traveling with their families?  Are we in
fact, afraid of the contents of baby bottles and sippy cups?

What is next?  Searching for the WMD's in the diapers?

Exactly!  And we have to take into account that they didn't just terrorize the mother.  They terrorized her nineteen-month-old child, too, by putting him in a frightening situation with unfamiliar people and depriving him of his mother.  Further, they wouldn't allow the mother to summon the other guardian, her fiance, who was within sight  range, to help comfort the child.  How did we become such a terrorizing (yes, terrorizing, not terrorized) state that we can't even let parents comfort their children?  Are they going to tell me that they think a nineteen-month-old is a terrorist?  We're not even so much frightened by the threat of terrorism as we are frightening.

Addendum:  I don't remember the gender of the child, so I referred to him in the male context for ease.

I hear you dear.  (The toddler is a little boy, btw.)  It is hard enough for an able bodied adult to travel on an airline, but if you or person(s) in your party are infants, toddlers, small unmentionables, disabled, elderly, etc. it can easily become a nightmare.

My experiences in these matter include traveling with an elderly, disabled parent and all the attendant medical supplies.

This is why when i go home to vegas for a week next month i am leaving my boy at home. He likes tossing his bottles around and is a handful in crowds. As much as I want him to meet his grandmother's family i am content to wait til my man is down from trucking long enough to go with us. i can just see them trying to take his teething ring which has fuild inside of it and that don't fly with me no one pinches my kid's things unless its me.

I go through the airport daily and even flight crew members forget about the 3 ounce limit.  Also I once forgot I had a bottle of foundation in my purse .5 (1/2) ounce and they were going to make me throw it out but the next lady in line gave me a ziploc baggie so it was all good.  Now please explain to me how putting it into a baggie makes all liquids magically safe.

When my family went to Florida over the last holiday season my husband and I opted to drive instead of flying for a very similar reason.  There is just too much that can go wrong when flying with wee ones.  It does need to happen on occasion, though, and there is no reason for it to be that traumatic.

Edited to add:  Freyja, I've never understood that.  And let me tell you, my unmentionable is nine months old, and he goes through three ounces of juice or water in about five minutes.  It's really not feasible.

personally i wish i could drive from Maine to Nevada would sace some cash but I HATE being in a ccar for that long. From Vegas to LA is too long in my opinion. pit stops would make it even longer especially with a toddler who hates being still for too long

"Are they going to tell me that they think a nineteen-month-old is a terrorist?  "

I don't think any will tell you the kit is a terrosit but he could be a tool used by one.

What is really sad, is there are people in the world who will take a baby and use it for terrorism. In Vietnam people strapped explosive to their toddlers or put them in baby carriages and sent them among soldiers. I don't see it very far fetched for someone to stick explosives in a baby's diaper in order to smuggle the explosives onto an airplane. I for one would be happy if security staff checked diapers.
On a less drastic note. I have spent a flight next to a dirty diapered baby and that was a form of torture all by itself. (both for myself and the poor kid).

True story. (Not joking, this isn't made up)  I was flying with my 6 month old (3 months after 9/11) and I had a bottle of expressed breast milk in my diaper bag.  The male security guard took it out, opened it, SNIFFED it, and the guy went to stick his finger in the damn milk when I said "you know, most guys pay for a fetish like that"  I should not have said that!  At that point I was taken into a private room where a female security guard said I couldn't get on the plane unless I expressed some milk in front of her to prove that what was in the container was MINE.

Here's what will stick and burn your brain.  They told me I'd have to breast feed on the flight and took the bottle with the breast milk AND what I had expressed into a paper cup and escorted me onto the plane.

They KEPT the milk!  I've been a loyal AmTrak traveler ever since.

We're not at war with Anyone!

Get back to me when Congress declares one, Okay?

Now, if the passengers on any particular plane are incompetent enough to ALLOW THEMSELVES to be taken hostage, who the hell really cares?

Fargle, there you go again!
Al qeada declared War on us by blowing up a U.S. Naval ship and US Embasseys.
It is not neccessary for our Congress to declare "War" on someone to protect our interests when someone attacks us.
If it were, then why didn't Clinton do so?

What does the WTC and/or four jet planes have to do with the United States?

The WTC and Planes were COMMERCIAL ASSETS. So it's THE OWNERS who were attacked, not the USA.

(Fast reply)

I would have loved to have heard the audio of this event, but that was not available. However, the video was interesting. What was particularly interesting was the part where the woman was so upset that she "spilled" the contents of the cup when she opened it to supposedly drink it. Although the TSA person is in front, and you can't see the cup itself, you can see the motion of the woman's arm as she opened the cup. If you follow the action of her arm, you can see that she lifted it, rotated her forearm toward midline, which would have upended the cup; particularly interesting are the two times she shakes the cup after upending it. Ummm hmmmm. Right.

The floor is a polished tile floor. You can see the lights reflecting on the tile. The water was spilled in the area where most people will traverse it, being the shortest route after turning the corner. Several people walk by, including an elderly woman leaning on the arm of another woman for assistance in walking. If anyone has ever worked in any type of healthcare or safety field, they know that fluid plus tile plus pedestrians equals slips/falls/injuries, which explains those yellow caution signs put up when floors are mopped or spills occur. In the hospitals where I have worked, spills were considered an emergency, due to the safety hazard to others. The main thing I find to fault in this video was that it took several minutes for the guard to block traffic over this spot for the protection of others.

The woman was directed to wipe up the spill, according to the gestures in the video. She made a few swipes at it with a tissue, but that was apparently ineffective. The employee finally moved some sort of sign on a metal post over in front of the spill, and directed foot traffic around it, as an influx of people from an arriving flight came through. Someone brought a roll of paper towels, which was given to the woman. It took about 16 paper towels to wipe up the spill, judging by the number of times she unwrapped towels from the roll, wiped, and reached for more.

I do not know what was said or done prior to this, or after this video, but I am sure events would have gone a bit more smoothly if she had not chosen to dump the water onto the floor in front of the personnel. I am constantly amazed at the stories I hear of people receiving rude treatment from police or security or transportation officials. I have done a lot of traveling, and I have received nothing but courtesy. Either I have been incredibly lucky, or perhaps I just listen to instructions, follow the rules, and know that a few minutes inconvenience is not that big of a deal in the big picture.

I think this dumped the water because she was pissed off, and now she is playing the "Mommy card" to look like a victim. I am sure her toddler would have been much happier and less traumatized if she had not behaved in the way she had, and he'd had a peaceful flight instead of a huge mess of drama. People need to realize, if you act like an asshole, you will be treated like an asshole.
