LadyHeart -> Getting Creases Out of Vinyl (6/20/2007 6:33:48 PM)

I did a topic search but couldn't find an answer, so can anyone help out here? I bought a vinyl evil nurse outfit on Ebay and it's great but it's been in its packet a while and is quite creased. I've hung it in the bathroom hoping the steam would help, but it's still looking rumpled. Can I iron it from the back, and if so, on what heat setting, or is there another way to get it looking tidier?

If it's tight, one way would be to wear it! Just wear it round the house & it should take on your shape and become smoother. If it's not tight...well...over to people who know better....[:)]

I don't think I'd try ironing it, but you may be able to warm it with a hairdrier to help the creases fall out. Steam will have no effect , mainly because the vinyl isn't pourous. The creases will work out with wear, of course.

Thanks for your replies essexfemmegirl and Joseff. Unfortunately it's not very tight on me - I was afraid it might be too small but if anything it's a bit on the loose side. But body heat might help and I'll try the hair drier trick - I hadn't thought of that.

Be careful. If it's the type of vinyl that is bonded to a fabric backing (pleather), heat can/will "lift" the vinyl off of the material. Press the crease between some heavy books and use some weight also. Leave it for a few days, and the crease will flatten. If it is solid vinyl, a low heat iron and a sheet of paper used as a pressing cloth will do the trick. If you don't know what the material is, take it to a professional drycleaner and they will be able to help (for about $20, this may be your best option).

ive ironed pvc before, very gently. although the reverse looked ironed, it made jack shit difference to the pvc creases in the front. Maybe the iron wasnt hot enough, but i wasnt about to risk my pvc.
The answer has allready been given, put it on. As it warms and 'moulds' to you, the creases will go.
Then have yourself polished up. Lovely

The funny thing is, I changed my mind about wearing a latex dress when I was in a hurry to go out a few weeks ago - my friend & I were so busy lacing me into a corset instead, that I forgot all about the dress, which by now resembled a rubber ring...until this week! Similar scenario - I wondered what might be the best way of flattening it out again, but answered my own question :) Good luck LadyHeart!
