hijackthis is all one word, and it is a diagnostic tool developed by the admin  at spywareinfo.com so that there was an easily understandable reporting tool for their helpers to make deletion recommendations. it isn't an effective a/v tool for those that don't know their way around pc's!!
mackaffee and nortons are ineffective and cumbersome (and difficult to replace, as they see attempts to uninstall as virii or attacks) and give many false positives. avg is a free and effective av tool, but no one av system can work on all variations. avg has something called "heuristic analysis" in dummyspeak that means it looks for virus-type behaviour, rather than comparing filenames with a list that may well be out of date. if you decide to use hijackthis, i suggest you use this auto-diagnosis thingy, or visit the spybot page (spywareinfo.com) there are fake versions of many av progs out there, put spywareinfo.com in your bookmarks, and research first;

i use; adaware, spybot (with the resident protector activated), avg and spywareblaster, and scan regularly with hijackthis for any new extra bits i don't recognise. you should also be aware that, if using xp, you must turn off the "restore" function before virus fixing, or xp will just reload it again!!! then  make a new clean "restore" point and delete all the old ones, then switch the "restore" function back on!!!

I use the hijackthis program from this site myself. It's secure.
