ATLANTA (AP) - As the Atlanta Braves continue to struggle on the field, there is an unusual sign of disharmony among the team's most established veterans.
Chipper Jones was back in the Braves' lineup Saturday, saying he felt pressured by pitcher John Smoltz to rush back from a groin injury. The Braves had suffered three straight shutout losses for the first time since 1988 entering the game, which they lost 2-1 to Detroit — despite Jones' homer.

When asked before the game if he is rushing his return, Jones said, "Probably. But I feel a little backed into a corner."

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - The Big House is getting bigger.
University of Michigan Board of Regents on Thursday approved a $226 million renovation of Michigan Stadium.
The decision allows the university to open the project for bids.

When work is completed in 2010, the stadium will include 83 suites and 3,200 club seats, raising its total seating capacity from 107,501 to more than 108,000.

Michigan Stadium was built in 1927 for $950,000.

A disabled-veterans group filed a federal lawsuit against the university on April 17, claiming the design of the project does not meet federal standards for wheelchair-accessible seating.

The school disputed the claim made in the suit, filed by Michigan Paralyzed Veterans of America, saying the plan complies with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements that specify the number and location of wheelchair seating within stadiums.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State and coach Hal Mumme announced a settlement Thursday in a lawsuit brought by four former football players who claimed they were discriminated against because they are Muslims.
The case was scheduled to go to trial Monday. Both sides said they were pleased the settlement was reached before then.

"Our motivation was to put this issue behind us and to avoid a contentious, prolonged legal battle that would have done little but continue a distraction to the program," athletics director McKinley Boston said.

For the second straight year, USC basketball coach Tim Floyd has received a verbal commitment from an eighth-grader.
Ryan Boatwright, a speedy 5-foot-10, 145-pound rising freshman point guard from Illinois who has yet to make a decision on where he's headed for high school (he's choosing between East Aurora High and West Aurora High), accepted Floyd's scholarship offer while at USC's camp this past weekend.
