countessdollface -> wound confusion >_> (6/27/2007 2:10:07 AM)

so ive gotten a nice little wound in my forearm adn the thing is..i cant feel it. its gaping so i can dig at it with a needle (which is actually what i was doing) but i cannot feel it. at all.. shoudlnt it hurt?? i would imagine so..

so i suppose what im asking is wound numbess normal?

chellekitty -> RE: wound confusion >_> (6/27/2007 3:25:20 AM)

umm how long ago did the orignal wound happen? did you cause the wound yourself? have you taken or used any sort of anesthetic? (i'm guessing the last is a no because you are asking)

if its very recently theres a possibility of your body's natural reaction to pain - endorphins - still blocking the pain...and for me adrenaline increases the effects of endorphins...
if you caused the wound yourself...and/or are perpetuating it by dinging at it with a needle, perhaps you should see a medical professional about some things...i am a former self cutter (i also picked scabs to make myself bleed when i couldn't get anything sharp)...and when i used to cut it was for the wrong reasons...now i get cut by other people as a reward...same physical outcome...totally different mental outcome...i feel good and proud of my marks now...i am just guessing here...but if you want you can email me directly...
if its not recent and you haven't used any sort of anesthetic...to my understanding, its not normal...you should at least call a doctor

It possible you may have lost sensation in the area if there is necrotic (dead) tissue. Best advice:

Go to the drugstore. Buy a bottle of STERILE water, betadine, triple antibiotric ointment, sterile pads, and rolled gauze. Pour the sterile water over the wound, rinse with the betadine, put the TAO on a sterile pad (handle by the cornors to avoid getting "gunk" on the area that will be over the wound, a good way to get the TAO on it is squeeze a gob into the middle of the sterile pad, do not let the end of the tube touch it, pick the pad up by the sides and fold it togethr to "smear " it around, place the opne pad on the wound.) Then wrap the rolled gauze over it, and tape it.

Next, go to a doctor/urgent care. (Decide first how you're going to explain getting it). In addition to proper wound care, a nice antibiotic may help. Ther eisn't a whole lot of tissue on the forearm before you hit bone. If an infection gets into the bone (osteomyleitis), well, it's just ugly.

Go see a doc. And to keep the area dry when showering ( OK, nobody laugh,  hospitals use this ), either put on a rubber glove and tape it shut snugly around the top , or if the qwound is farther up the arm, put a plastic sack over it and tape it closed.

actually to chelle kitty- i am not a cutter nor have i ever been. i dont need help and it was a religious reason why i have my wound.

thansk everyone for the input i think it was momentary because i can very much so feel it now.

zindyslave -> RE: wound confusion >_> (6/27/2007 9:13:33 PM)

Religious reason? Would you mind explaining that please?

chellekitty -> RE: wound confusion >_> (6/27/2007 9:27:06 PM)

the reason i asked about self cutting was because you said you were digging at it with a needle..."normal" people don't do that...didn't mean to offend you

countessdollface -> RE: wound confusion >_> (6/27/2007 10:35:32 PM)

well im not very 'normal' i wanted to see just how deep it really was so i grabbed a needle.

and no im sorry i dont care to explain because its not anyone buisness but mine.

and now that we are of no use to you, you don't want to play anymore...oh and something else that sounds a little fishy...you have been a member for nearly 2 years but you are 18? you should probably update your profile...
take care

I was just asking no need to be rude, you could have just said I don't wish to share. You asked for advice and they gave it too you. I was just wondering because I have never heard of a religious wound. Since they gave you advice and I would have if I had had any to give why don't you be alittle more nice they didn't have to pay any attention to your post but they did.

nomeci -> RE: wound confusion >_> (6/28/2007 9:09:58 PM)

This is a forum where people share stories and experiences with one another so that every can benefit from each others knowledge.

There was no reason for you to mention the religious connection with the wound.  In the future, if you do not wish to discuss certain aspects of your situation - I would suggest not bringing them up to others.

I agree, that's like telling someone I have a secret, but I'm not telling you, because it's a secret.

If you don't want people asking why don't put it out there.

If it was inflicted for religious reasons, perhaps your spiritual leader might have advised you better on care of the wound.

Only one real cure for drama.....amputation :D

grlneedstolearn -> RE: wound confusion >_> (6/30/2007 12:21:25 PM)

i think this post went haywire, from good advice to "i don't want to talk about it" from the OP. And yes amaidiamond, i agree that there is drama lurking somewhere on this post.
