WoooHooo. . . coffee and muffins!

The Top 6 Philosophy Questions of All Time, Answered!

1. How do I know anything really exists?

-Kick it really hard.

2. What is the essence of being human?

-Not understanding the opposite sex.

3. If a tree falls in the forest, and there's no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?

-Not if it lands on a bunch of pillows.

4. How do I know I'm not just a brain in a vat, hooked up to a computer simulation of life?

-Look in the mirror.  If you see a gray, spongy thing in a glass container, you are.

5. Can our minds exist seperately from our bodies?

-If they could, we'd just send our minds to work and sleep in every morning.

6. Is there a God?

-A billion Hindus can't be wrong.

Okay, I am going to give the real answer for this question, even though it is some sort of zen koan.

If a tree falls in the forest, and there's no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?

The real answer is no.  Sound travels in waves, and for a sound to exist, means that the wave has to be recieved by something - ear drum, recording device, and turned into what is recognized as sound.  So if there is NOTHING to "hear" (pick up) the sound wave, then they will not become sounds.  There is nothing to make sound from the sound wave.

Well, that should be nice and confusing this morning.

Well the Christmas season is in full swing here on the Circle C,MY sweet wife is a nutt for decorating,When I was up for coffee at 4 am not one thing was up so tiffany ,willow and I went back for some more sleep. When I woke and came out of the bedroom it was hard to walk without bumping into a Santa,a  wreath or some Little Christmas gnome...... not a single thing is safe, even our beloved pets are scared to take a nap for fear of waking up with a set of lights stuck on their ass! poor ol' zeak our border collie is always an experiment, last year he had to wear reindeer ears . .Lord only knows what she has in store for him this year....

But the question states that there is no one to HEAR it.  No eardrums.  I assume that means either no animals either, or no creature with the ability to process and care about the tree.

Like I said, it is a zen koan, but I was just inserting the science view, cause you can always use that info at a cocktail party or when someone (a college sophomore) is yapping about it.

It was intended to be for fun only.

Sounds like my mother's house.  Oh my, the things that I used to do to her Christmas decorations.  Evil.  Pure evil.

I also have reindeer antlers for my doggies.  The vet gave them the good dogs of the year award for putting up with them.  He was amazed and then started taking pictures for his book 'o' dogs.

Remember, Christmas only comes once a year.

Let me rephrase. . .

It was intended to be only a "fun fact."  One of those bits of trivia that are fun but rather useless.

I have always enjoyed finding answers to those questions that people ask to try and stump you or to make some piss contest point that one is not as smart as one thinks.  Such as the driveway/parkway thing and the sound of one hand clapping.

Took the UM's to a Christmas festival last night, complete with horse & buggy rides. Ohhhh, my daughter LOVED it!! (She loves horses.) I took a pic of her with the horse, and right as I was snapping the pic, the horse nuzzled her hair. ~smiling~ (Horses smell good.)

Unfortunatly, KU lost their last game (to Missouri no less ), and so ended the season 11-1.  I have not heard if they are having a bowl game or not.  I do hope so, as I think that it would be nice to watch the game with my parents over the holidays.  Not that I am that much of a football fan, but I still think that it would be nice.

hehe, i can't help it, truly i can't. it's a compulsion (yes i know, they have meds for it). when i DO restrain myself, it busts out in other ways, so it's just better for everyone if i let it come out every now and then.
