go find the local paper. go to the jobs section. tell me what's in it. not what you think you're qualified for, or that you don't want, but what's in it.

then go to the section that advertises it wants volunteers (if it's in there). if not, use the internet, and FIND a volunteer organisation. red cross, local library, woman's shelter, animal shelter.... what is there in your neighbourhood.

don't tell me there's nothing there, LOOK until you find something, then come back and tell me.

u dont get it.. ive applied to most of the shops in town.. and still nothing.. idk what else u want me to do. there is nothing in my neighborhood.. i dont live in town.

H >:)

yes, i do get it. i've been there. i found someplace that needed a volunteer to do crappy stuff. i volunteered. i did it long enough they thought i did a good job, i got asked to work 5 hours a week for pay. after a few months i was working full time.

i moved to a place recently that i had a few family members, but no job set up yet. i started by doing a crap job again (paid fortunately) and am now in a position of responsibility. i got it by being willing to do anything and being good at it. if that's what you gotta do, you gotta do it. There's always something, you just have to look at it until you find it.

stop spending so much energy telling me there isn't and you can't and start spending it by figuring out where there IS something for you - paid or not! you've got a defeatist attitude, and believe me that's going to bleed through.

i recently hired someone who has NO experience, and willing to do the lowest job. but he's mad keen to learn, and we've been offering him opportunities for training and he's grabbed them all. he's going to go far with us - and he'll be good at it too.

[... sneaks in trying to find some caffeine at this hour ... trying not to draw attention ...]

Asherdelampyr -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (5/3/2008 9:48:25 PM)

So, Screwdrivers?

sappatoti -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (5/3/2008 9:52:10 PM)

Naw. I swore them off a number of years ago. Something about a birthday thing at a beach... kelp in the living room...

Asherdelampyr -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (5/3/2008 9:52:54 PM)

Kelp??? sounds fun!

sappatoti -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (5/3/2008 10:05:45 PM)

I was living in Jax Beach, FL at the time. I was patronizing my usual beach-side tiki bar and it happened to be my birthday (I thought I could let it slip by unnoticed). A couple of friends came by, one of which knew it was my birthday. The bartender was busy that night, starting with the screwdrivers.

While living on the beach I rarely drove. I either walked or rode the mountain bike around. That night I biked to the bar. I don't remember how I made it home, but when I awoke the next day, there was kelp in the living room. The bike was there too, complete with kelp wrapped around the crankset, gear clusters, and chain. There was also a puddle of salt-water under the bike, plus sand all over the place.

My neighbor informed me that I attempted to leave the bar's deck and ride down the streets but was stopped by an on-duty sheriff's officer from doing so. He cautioned that under city ordinance I could be arrested for driving while intoxicated since bikes were considered vehicles. My neighbor then went on to say that I rode the bike off the deck towards the beach and disappeared into the blackness of the beach and ocean.

That sort of explains the kelp I guess.

fun story :)

KMsAngel -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (5/3/2008 10:13:57 PM)

ah sappa, only you!

sappatoti -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (5/3/2008 10:15:13 PM)

I'm guessing I had some fun moments, though my neighbor (who started the whole party) was mum on any other details. I was a bit uneasy for a couple of days after that night; she had all she could do to keep from smirking at me.

Maybe I'm better off not knowing.

:)

Hey now... I can't be the only one who has had a memory issue brought about by a bit of over-indulgence.

All that matters is... did you have fun during those two times? ;)

As far as virginal or angelic, well... I think that was debunked several months ago... during the heyday of Arrrggghhh. ;)

KMsAngel -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (5/3/2008 10:30:43 PM)

Lord have mercy the BS is deep in here.  Angel - you start cleaning it up RIGHT NOW.  I'll show you cute with a cranky on.  yes i will.

Asher, now lookie here.  This is a family establishment.  If you and Christitne wanna do the naughty naughty, do like all the rest of us... GO to the shed and visit ole John Deere.
*slaps Chrissy's bum.  You know better girl.

Glad to hear Miss H is feeling better, but I'm still missing her... She the only one that keeps my fool self in line.

Now let's see... Oh yes, I have just started making a bunch of greeting cards to sell... Took a bunch of the pictures I've been taking and am using them as the covers.  Oh my they are perty.   Have a Hawaii series, a Paris, Rome, Korea, Buddhist temples, and flowers bunch.  They are beautiful.  I think the prettiest ones are the ones of just flowers.... Ever looked at a peony up close?  Oh my are they beautiful!  Go look at some Georgia O'Keefe.  That will bring joy to your life...  http://images.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&q=georgia+okeefe

and speaking of joy, Bounty and Lady, I"m sorry to hear of your loss.  May you find peace in this time...

Then a woman said, 'Speak to us of Joy and Sorrow.'

And he answered:

Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.

And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.

And how else can it be?

The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.

Is not the cup that hold your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven?

And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?

When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.

When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.

Some of you say, 'Joy is greater than sorrow,' and others say, 'Nay, sorrow is the greater.'

But I say unto you, they are inseparable

peace, sunshine
