i researched the houdini story and it is indeed a legend. The punches from the Canadian college student into the lower belly did not cause or aggravate the appendicitis. Houdini apparently thought the continued soreness in his abdomen was from the punches, and delayed too long in seeing a doctor.

For me the line has always been (and will always remain) firmly drawn between hurt, and harm. Causing pain is one thing, inflicting injury is another entirely.
