GDCouple -> pops? (7/7/2007 5:20:16 AM)

Some may think this is nuts, but I read about it on another site recently, and it seems like it could do damage to someone. Anyway, a Dominant posted that he enjoys using "pops, snap in pops" on his sub. These are the little papers filled with gunpowder that kids throw on the ground to make noise and sparks. Anyway, he tapes them to her back while she is tied down and then flogs her. Eventually hitting the snaps.

This could do damage to someone if enough are placed on them, am I correct?

HeavansKeeper -> RE: pops? (7/7/2007 5:47:58 AM)

If enough are placed on someone, they could theoretically explode...

I very much doubt they're using anywhere remotely near that number, though.  That would be a truckload.  I don't see a huge problem with this.  I've been hit in the chest with a handful, it stung like rubber bands.  Too many at once could 1st degree burn the skin. I would worry more about the high amout of fine chemicals they are exposing the bottom to.  Although caps don't use weapon's grade gunpowder, it is explosive.  I don't know what chemicals are in the byproduct, but I can assume it isn't 100% carbon.

I'm not a doctor... Or a physicist... Or a fireworks salesman, but my opinion is that there is no real risk if done in moderation.  I would not allow them near the face, though.

Anything can do serious damage, even death if used in excess.  Those little pop things sting when they hit you.  I imagine if hit on you they would leave little marks.
Unbearable I don't think so.  Although nothing I have any experience with either personally.  Beyond the kids hitting them on the ground by my legs.

I"ve never heard of them, but not everyone loves the smell of burnt gunpowder. For those of us who do..mmmm....

Ummmmm, never tried but...

Shaped Charge 101 is that you trap a bang in every direction but one, that'll direct the reflected energy in that one direction.

So if you have a bang surrounded by either skin and tape, then it comes down to whether the weakest of the two materials breaks and releases the energy and debris, or they both stretch and hold the heat and impact in one place.

You can rig that contest by scapel slicing, invisible breaks into the tape to weaken it and so trap less of the initial explosive impulse.
(Some tapes are flammable BTW)

But if the floggers still moving forward and pushing on the tape with more force than the explosion, you trap the bang and risk either a cigarette style burn, or worse the popper coating gets pushed into the skin like a unhygienic tattoo crossed with a gas injector.

If you wanted to freak out a pitch black, play party safely, you'd rig it like a stage magician.
Legal disclaimer: You're taking explosive special effects advice from some stranger off the internet??

Between the soft bouncy skin and the explosive popper, you want something rigid like a large coin or metal plate.
The coin will spread the initial impulse over a larger skin area causing bruising rather than tearing as well as prevent burns. Because it protects the skin you can use more poppers for extra effect. If you use too many poppers, the coin will be punched into the skin with too much force.
Because the coin is hard, it'll reflect the blast quickly to keep the wavefront high and put a greater impulse load on the tape. So the bang sounds louder and the tape find it harder to stop

Because explosions reflect and/or follow boundaries, you don't want to tape over the poppers and the skin, in case the explosion stays inside the tape and wraps around the coin. Use dabs of double sided tape to hold the coin to the skin, as well as hold the poppers to the coin.
Any tape that goes round the outside to conceal the magic, should be subtely sliced to ribbons, and as weak as possible so it doesn't stop the pop from heading out rather than in.
Square grid cuts look fake, but a shattered glass effect radiating from the poppers location should look natural.

Finally a flogger would suck as the detonator, since it's large surface area and weight, makes it hard to crush the popper and risks trapping any pop as well as hiding it from the audience.
A straightened wire coathanger used as cane, while evil against skin, would be better against poppers since it's got enough sting to detonate them, it's too thin to trap or hide the pop, and hard enough to survive.

If you don't trust DIY bangs, you want to look for movie squibs and someone smarter than you to rig them.

As a teen we used to have fights with them. I am sure that they hurt but cause very little  damage (none permanent). I got one on my face once just below my eye it left a small powder burn that cleared up in 3 days. The impact hurt more than the actual pop because we were firing them with wrist rocket sling shots. Of course I was the sadistic one who was aiming for the crotch or bare skin. I suppose they could hurt more and do some damage on sensitive places like the inner thigh or any were the skin is thinner. If they are being flogged to make them explode that would take a serious hit. In any case I wouldn't worry to much because who ever is doing this hopefully has consent and recognizes a safe word. At least He/She isn't launching bottle rockets from the subs ass.  Hope that helps.

I think I like this idea...

Have to note...coins are made of metal,metal heats up so in theory you could still get a burn.

LOL...bottle rockets...LOL
Talk about a burning ass...Thats just a picture I cant get out of My head...lmfao

Rafters -> RE: pops? (7/8/2007 11:23:08 PM)

Try searching Youtube.com for "Ass rocket", not recommended [:D]

Metal will heat, but only is heavily compressed or held next to hot air long enough for the heat to transfer.
As long as the shrapnel content is low, then the explosion should circulate the hot air out without putting enough pressure against the metal to compress it.

The biggest risk will be the plastic tape igniting while it's stuck to flesh.

MistressSassy66 -> RE: pops? (7/9/2007 11:33:06 AM)

I would think the melting tape would be something like melting pallet wrap.
That could get really interesting really fast...

I also had fun in this way when I was younger.  Sometimes we would have dares surrounding them.  Crush one between your fingers.  Step on a bunch with bare feet.  Chew some in your mouth (not recommended).  They never did any damage to speak of.  Worst injury I can remember is when I bit my tongue when one exploded in my mouth.

Anyways, with those memories, I thought they would be great during BDSM play.  Scary, but not harmful.  I found them to be too messy for my adult tastes.  They leave gunpowder residue everywhere, and create an acrid odor.  If that doesn't bother you I'm sure they would be safe in moderation.

sub4hire -> RE: pops? (7/9/2007 1:04:58 PM)

Apparently there is no gunpowder in the pops.
"
Silver fulminate (AgONC) is an ionic compound of silver and the fulminate anion. It has CAS number 5610-59-3.
It is a primary explosive that has very little practical value due to its extreme sensitivity. The impact of a single water droplet has been known to detonate several milligrams of silver fulminate. Even small amounts of this explosive can cause extensive shrapnel damage, and should be treated with extreme caution. Silver fulminate is often confused with fulminating silver, a decomposition product of Tollen's reagent. Fulminating silver does not contain the fulminate anion, although it is also an explosive compound.
Silver fulminate is used in trick noise-makers known as "crackers", "snappers," "pop-its," or "bang-snaps," a popular type of novelty firework.
Only very tiny amounts of silver fulminate should be prepared at once, as even the weight of the crystals can cause them to self detonate. Silver fulminate was first prepared in 1800 by Edward Charles Howard in his research project to prepare a large variety of fulminates. For 200 years it has been only useful as a curiosity explosive in toys and tricks."

Those are sooo much fun to play with, but i would not allow my Dom to use them on me

shadevarr -> RE: pops? (7/9/2007 3:45:24 PM)

oh, that is just a beautiful idea. I soo need to go buy some now :D

GhitaAmati -> RE: pops? (7/10/2007 8:31:04 AM)

We used to pop them between our fingers, never any "real" damage. stings a litle, but never even really got a powder burn. I think popping them with a single tail would be feasible, I doubt Id tape them by covering them in tape, maybe just a small amount of tape accross the little twisty bit of paper at the tip. I think it would be more of a "special effect" in the sound and scary factor, more than cause actual damage, as long as person doing it was handy with the whip.

Me and my brother used to throw those things at each other all the time.  We survived without a scratch.

If anyone tries it, please video tape it. I love seeing those "Hey ya'll, watch this!" videos on You-tube.

Phoenix2raven -> RE: pops? (10/25/2007 7:39:11 AM)

Steveo from jack ass launched a roman candle from his ass. I would not recommend that cause it could damage the best assett of the property lol.

LadyLynx -> RE: pops? (10/25/2007 8:57:58 AM)

as when playing with anything flammable, have water very close by.  And I liked the idea that Ghita Amati said.
