This is the first time I have gotten them back to back. The last infection I had was a kidney infection and if my back hadn't started hurting like it did when I had kidney stones I wouldn't have known about it. Now it feels like I have another uti but not like the last one, it just burns when I pee. I have been drinking alot of water since the last infection, I haven't tried the cranberry juice which I guess I should have done thought about because my mom insisted I drink it when I was a teenager when I had a uti. If I get another one after I get rid of this one I will bring it up with my doctor. Thank you all for the advice.

A kidney infection is not a urinary tract infection, and vice versa.  A kidney infection is VERY serious, as it can permanently scar the glomeruli and tubules (the filters), and the collection system of the kidney.  A UTI is generally a bladder infection, or an infection of the ureters that lead from the kidneys to the bladder or the urethra to the exit.

Your doctor should be vigilant with you about culturing your urine when you get these UTIs and other infections so they can identify the organisms that are causing it and treat appropriately.  Bombing it with a broad spec ABX is nice, but it's what leads you to your yeast infections/thrush.  Your kidney infection was likely one type of organism (gram positive cocci, perhaps) and your UTI could be something different (could even be candida, or a gram neg organism.)

Really, talk to your doctor.  You've got a mess going on in your girl parts and it's not for us to speculate what you really have!  You do not want to risk permanent damage because you didn't get appropriate treatment.

Well, my doctors don't seem to worried about my recurrent infections. I have been going through those recurring infections for quite sometime, and I have never had a doctor listen to me and try to find out what is wrong. As of right now I don't have the health insurance to go to the doctor for all of these problems. I am working on getting some health insurance. I just didn't know if it was possible to get an infection again this soon after being treated for one.

OK, I guess I need to be blunt.  Find a new doctor or clinic.  Most GLBT support offices/public health clinics/planned parenthoods will help you if you are uninsured or underinsured.

from what I read on WebMD the only way you can get a kidney infection is either the bacteria being in the blood and it getting in the kidney that way or from having an untreated urinary tract infection which eventually works its way to the kidneys I figured that was the way I got it because I had went a few months before to the doctor for a uti and they told me I didn't have one then a few months down the road I have a really bad kidney infection....but as I said I read it on WebMD...I maybe wrong...the site maybe wrong but that is where I got my information.

zindy --

Please stop getting your medical help online.  I work in the organ transplant business for a living. People wind up getting transplanted because their kidneys are so badly damaged -- and chronic nephritis from infection is one of the reasons.  If you think you don't have money to clean up a UTI or kidney infection, you really don't have the money for a transplant and the subsequent immunosuppressant therapy.

Tough love time, I'm sorry to say. If you need sourcing for a clinic in your area, write me (or have your dominant write me) on the other side and I'll see what I can find for you.  Someone has already posted one resource for you.  Put your researching to good use in finding proper health care rather than a bunch of theories and farmer's remedies for serious issues.

I done posted that I was going to the doctor next week, I was basically wanting to know if getting a uti after being treated for a kidney infection was possible and it got all twisted. But from now on I will talk to my doctor about these things.

Sometimes an illness alters the ph levels an bacteria balance in your system.
It's very common if you took antibiotics or have a feminine infection that you get reoccurring yeast due to the compromised environment in there.
Once your twat recovers from the stress and trauma of not only your UTI, but from taking the antibiotics you should improve.
They do sell  teas and tonics in health food stores that clean your kidneys and such, but that's more to promote health rather than heal infections.
Drink 6-8 bottles of water a day instead of cranberry juice.
The cranberry juice helps as it's very acidic and burns off any junk in the urinary tract & kidneys.
When I donated my kidney they actually recommended I not drink much cranberry juice any more as it's corrosive qualities are not worth the benefits to me any longer in the U of MD Hospital's opinion.
Plain old water will flush them without stressing your system out worse by an acid wash.
Good luck at the Doctors and in re-establishing a healthy balance once you're well.

thank you suzanne, I have been drinking water to stop getting kidney stones and all that, so I have been flushing them out quite a bit. But I should be okay once I go to the doctor and get everything taken care of.

I used to get frequent UTI's my doctor suggested I start taking Cranberry pills daily haven't had one since.. You can obtain them anywhere they sell vitamins..

zindyslave -> RE: uti again?? (7/22/2007 7:39:25 PM)

I am going to talk to the doc about that, and other things, but I guess since the kidney infection I had was so bad it could be another one... or It might not be one but we will find that out Wednesday.

I an not trying to be critical here and certainly not of you. But there just seems to be something so fundamentally wrong w/ any doctor or clinic that wouldn't get you in just long enough to do a clean catch urine sample...at least you would know if you had one and they would be able to tell from the UA how bad it was....then by wednesday (if they felt it was safe enough to wait that long) they would know what you cultured for so that they could treat you with the correct antibiotics.
It is also possible that your urethra was scratched by a stone fragment thus causing you pain.

Having said that, it seems as though you are more or less comfortable with your healthcare providers...and I will not complicate things by trying to second guess them in the future.

zindyslave -> RE: uti again?? (7/23/2007 2:21:36 PM)

Don't worry about second guessing them, I know alot of people would. I just don't have the resources to go to a different doctor right now and the one I see seems like she will keep on top of things since she is willing and has studied about hemochromotosis, which I have and most docs don't even beleive it is a real problem at least around here. So, I may get upset with them but I am happy with them in that respect.

MistresssAria -> RE: uti again?? (7/24/2007 3:12:15 PM)

Wow, you're having the same problem as I am - 2 in a row!  I wonder if my hood piercing has anything to do with it (hey, I do shower lol!).  Drinking cranberry juice can help - but not the sugary kind that barely has any cranberry in it.  Also, the cranberry supplement pills are crap - or so says my dr. dad

zindyslave -> RE: uti again?? (7/24/2007 4:22:59 PM)

yeah, I know if I have to drink cranberry juice it will be the bitter kind. But I go to the doc tommorow so hopefully we will find out but I am just wondering if I am going to have to wait since I started. Usually they make me wait.
