In the old days, in Europe and the Americas, a shaved snatch was unattractive. Hookers shaved to keep crabs away but wore merkins to keep their clients happy.
In the inverse, in Asia when trying to please their new Christian guests, they discovered that foreigners were offended by the sight of their nude crotches. In a strange misunderstanding, they thought it was the pubic hair that was offencive so Asians started shaving their pubes to please their foreign guests.
