I saw a commercial for this on TV tonight. It's a test that you use in the privacy of your own home and it's available from your local pharmacy. The test is NOT intended to diagnose STD's or other infections, but it tests the vaginal PH and tells you if it is likely you are having a problem with yeast. Women who experience burning, itching or odor and assume that they have a yeast infection are wrong about 50% of the time and have something more going on, according to the company. They want women to be able to tell if they are choosing the right treatment or should be seeking medical attention.

Well, the only way to know for certain what to treat for is to have a smear looked at under a microscope. There are too many different organisms - non-specific vaginitis, trichomoniasis, yeast, and God-knows what else...frankly I'd rather get it right the first time, and not waste money and time trying to self-diagnose something that could take me around the mulberry tree more times than necessary. PH is not nearly a reliable way to test for infection compared to looking at what's living in there.

If you read the kit, trichomoniasis or bacteria based infections will have a higher pH (which my doc said is true) than a standard yeast infection.  i bought it and tried it (with the aid of $8 CVA Extra Bucks) because it costs $16.99 for 2 tests.  my mom said to buy pH strips at a pool supply store and keep their chart.  lol.

I tried it and had a high ph so i got checked out. I ended up with a case of bacterial vaginosis (not an std) and got the medicine for it from the health department. I liked the test because if it had turned out to be a yeast infection i could have treated it at home,  instead of running to the health department ,since you can only go once every six months. but since it was high i was glad to know because the last time i had BV i treated it as a yeast infection with two rounds of medicine wich is apperantly the worst thing you can do if it is BV and i ended up in the ER with lots of antibiotics and pain medicine. It can save you an expensive trip to the doctor.
