Just curious as to what people had in their book shelves. (I'm looking for a good read.)

In mine (* = highly recommend):

Non-fiction: *The Loving Dominant (Warren), *Different Loving (Brame), *Imaginative Sex (Norman), *Sensual Magic (Califa), Miss Abernathy's Concise Slave Training Manual (Abernathy)

Yours,

I found *The Ethical Slut* a good read Sir. If you are looking for just short stories, consider going to our own writting section and change the option to go back 365 days (at the top of the page). Then you can access all stories that have been posted since the board first opened.

I saw an interview with the authour of The Ethical Slut, looked interesting.

I have been reading some of the stories on the creative writing page, even submitted one of my own. But I think what I am looking for is either a really deep and insightful non-fiction book on the lifestyle, or some well written saga. Basically I want to read The Loving Dominant and The Marketplace Trilogy again for the first time.

Has anyone read John Warren's newest book; Safe Sane Consensual and Fun?

Yours,
Taggard

You're telling me there are two more books? She must have written them after 96...

Someone's going to Borders!

Feline, funny how many of the same books we have...Don't you just love 9 1/2 Weeks!

That was the book that made me realize I couldn't live vanilla anymore. (But not the way you think.) I was in this Salvation Army looking at the used books, and I saw a copy of 9 1/2 Weeks...hard cover jacket in perfect condition. 50 cents! I went to buy it and my wife says to me, "don't you already have a copy?" I did and I didn't pick the book up...something about that stayed with me for days...and it was really one of teh final straws. Funny how life works...

i noticed myself how many books we have that are the same.

9 1/2 Weeks is one of my favorite movies. So i had to have the book.

Yes there are 2 more in The Marketplace series; The Academy and The Reunion. i love Laura Antoniou's writting. Much more realistic then the Beauty trilogy, which is more like fantasy.

Take care,

I have found a great place to purchase books is the local library. Mine has thousands, and none over 2$, the majority averaging 50ยข. And they carry most everything. The lady that volunteers there is a Bombeck (sp) fan and actually found a signed copy. She said there have been many books bought there that have been signed. Most of the books are donated by a group called "friends of the library". All proceeds go to maintain the place.

Whenever I put personal ads on vanilla sites, I always make reference to that movie...usually the tack shop scene (which was sooo much better in the book) or the blindfolded food scene. kindof a *wink, wink* to those who might be curious.

Didn't make it to Borders tonight, have to head over at lunch time. I corresponded Laura Antoniou for a bit back in 96, (ok, it was more like I sent her a gushing fan letter and she replied with something nice and I pestered her a few more times) she was rather active in the online community then. (As was and is John Warren.)

Speaking of John Warren, how did you respond to The Loving Dominant? When I first read that book, it really opened my eyes to the fact that one could be in total control, even "hurtful" and yet do it with love and in a way that was a satisfaction of a need. allowed me to trully be myself. It is the best book on BDSM I have ever read. But I am never sure if submissives or slaves would get the same out of it.

Yours,
Taggard

Hi there,

i also have "the story of O" in my collection. i'd recommend "Come Hither: a commonsense guide to kinky sex" by Dr. Gloria G. Brame - this is a good primer for newbies.

happy reading!

Have you tried Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns? cant really characterize it as deep (too much humour in it) but it did give me some nice insights, as well as some how to tips

will have to get back to you on the book list of what I have, as have (still) not unpacked them all from moving a year ago (six day workweeks will have that effect)

Topping from Below was pretty interesting although a little ... tedious... in a few places. It's by Laura Reese. I'm not sure that I liked the ending but I did enjoy reading it. I related to several parts of it. You never know if the writer is going to present BDSM in a positive light or not. She wrote a second book called Panic Snap that was also pretty good. I enjoyed them for fun. I could probably find a lot of fault with how things were presented but overall, good reads.

I haven't read his new book but he's pretty groovy - I used to talk to him in chat occasionally. I like his thought process. I would say you're pretty safe in getting that one for your collection.
