Sweetbluerose -> What's in a name? (8/2/2007 9:34:17 AM)

I am curious, how the other female subs and slaves feel about some of the names the men use on here? Some of them are so lurid or explicit, personally those names make me want to run the other way.
So do you pay attention to the collarme user names?

littleone35 -> RE: What's in a name? (8/2/2007 9:40:00 AM)

Some of the names make me raise my eyebrows, but some do that to get attention (sometimes the wrong kind).  If i was not happily collared and a person with an explict nick had a good profile, and i was interested i would probly contact them anyway.  I would see what he is like i would not judge someone just by their s/n.

Yup, and female names are just as bad.

< s/n just as bad

if they have a s/n like CBTnow, or Watersportmebaby, then yeah, I pay attention to what the s/n is telling me

Interweb names in general have a tendency to be kind of silly. I don't read too much into it, though. They're not too important in the longrun.

What really gets me is when ya meet people, and they ask you to call'm by their screen-name. Not just from collarme, but from any place online. Just makes me...smile. [:D]

littlesarbonn -> RE: What's in a name? (8/2/2007 2:25:21 PM)

Screen names can sometimes cause more problems than they're worth. I was owned by a very well known professional dominant once who was somewhat of a rock star of dominants. Whenever we were together, she received massive attention and I was always the "sub that was with her". And I was fine with that.

Well, this was when the Internet was really starting to make its way into the community, and we went to a social gathering of dominant women and submissive men. Everyone was in fetish gear and such, and people immediately recognized her, and to me, it seemed like a regular social gathering I had grown used to with her. However, the actual emphasis of this group, and the way most people originally came in contact, was through message boards on the Internet. Again, all was fine because even though this was an Internet gathering of people, she was still a rock star amongst bdsm people. Then she introduced me to a dominant woman, kind of in a half-hearted way, like she normally did (which was quite fine with me), and the dominant woman asked her what screen name I went by because that seemed to be the comment everyone was addressing. She mentioned my screen name, and it was like the whole room stopped, the music cut out in mid riff, and I swear a couple of birds in the nearby trees fell off their branches. This woman then said, "That's Duane, (screen name)???" My Mistress said yes, and then suddenly everyone was swamping us.

All I really remember was my Mistress at the end saying something to the effect of "that's the last time I introduce YOU at a party, Mr. LookAtMeI'mFamous!" She was somewhat joking, but I think at the same time she was kind of pissed as this was the first time that ever happened, and she was quite the lover of attention.

Some do disgust me, but normally i don't look twice at someone's sn on here

earthycouple -> RE: What's in a name? (8/2/2007 3:56:18 PM)

I have a whole journal entry about this...it is very interesting to me what people choose.  I definately pick profiles out to read, according to the name because I see it as somewhat as a reflection of the person.  Earthycouple...I'm married and we are fairly earthbased and realistic.  So I guess that's me.

adoracat -> RE: What's in a name? (8/2/2007 5:25:11 PM)

i use two screen names.  one, i get mistaken for a Domme because it has "Lady" in it....which has really nothing to do with BDSM and everything to to with religious beliefs.  and this one....which was one of the pet names my late Sir called me.

kitten, who is silly.

classykindasassy -> RE: What's in a name? (8/2/2007 5:47:27 PM)

Would you let a dom with the handle "Doofus" get anywhere near you with implements of ass destruction? I hope not.

MissOchistic -> RE: What's in a name? (8/3/2007 1:15:24 AM)

Ha....I get people asking me all the time, "Miss Ochistic? So you're really a switch, then?"

I pay a little attention, but not enough to influence whether I'd talk to them or not.

Babybass -> RE: What's in a name? (8/3/2007 1:41:38 AM)

i do sometimes wonder why people pick certain names and what the origins are - and i have been asked to explain the whole 'Babybass' thing (its a musical instrument reference!!) but i never decide to talk to someone based on their screen name - and i don't think i could ever call someone in real life by their screen name - thats just odd!!!

bignipples2share -> RE: What's in a name? (8/3/2007 2:27:13 AM)

uhhh... I don't WANNA be called by this screen name offline. < laughing > Though it is a name that's close to my heart...welllll okay... chest, it usually tells me who the HNG are in usually one email.

Had a chat profile elsewhere (fully clothed pictures) and the HNG wouldn't even see any of the words on the profile.
Them: Hi

sleazybutterfly -> RE: What's in a name? (8/3/2007 4:02:00 AM)

I love my name on here, I have tried some others out, but nothing seems to quite hit me the same.  I don't really care what it makes others think, though I have really had nothing but compliments on it.  I hope it conveys a sense of humor that I have, a little off the wall and pretty laid back.  It also shows my love of butterflies, so it gives a bit of my personality in a couple of ways.

I think that most people take themselves way too seriously, if they can't take my name as a bit of fun, they probably aren't someone I want to talk with anyway.

CandyLover -> RE: What's in a name? (8/3/2007 11:56:41 AM)

The two words that scare me off the most in member names are "true" and "real".  Though, I suppose I could make an exception for TheRealGhostbusters or TrueLies.

SageFemmexx -> RE: What's in a name? (8/3/2007 12:26:41 PM)

Screen names in my opinion are an important insight into that person's point of view or personality. Since people often use their sn as a nickname, I think it is a clue about how many things including their basic insecurities. Any dominant that HAS to be addressed by Sir, Master or Lord, Ms or Mistress and uses them in their screen name, in my experience is worried about their dominance and how others perceive them. They are trying to convince people about something that may not be there.

michelleryder -> RE: What's in a name? (8/3/2007 12:31:32 PM)

Some are pretty funny and well thought out though some people are really imaginative when it comes to thier screen names.

corsetgirl -> RE: What's in a name? (8/3/2007 2:29:53 PM)

There are some names that definitely define themselves.  One profile I looked up only wanted a sub for sexual service, no affection, love, whatever and then at the end of the profile, he stated that if one does not like it, then they could eat him....nice but to each of his or her own kink.  Some are really funny, one calls himself a stud but the photo just does not project the image correctly.
