While you're waiting for the repairman to show up, turn on a fan, put a cool damp rag on the back of your neck.  Not much else to do.

check the furnace if the ac is on and running and no cold is comming ffrom the vents check the furnace the furnace is what blows eveyrhting
also if the ac is on but the fan is not spinnning turn it off right away and runn a hose with cold watter dont let that burn up or you will have no chance at fixing it and will have to spend 2000 on a new unite

it is a window unit, :-)   it is cheaper to replace it then to repair it.,,,

Hmmmm - not having need of air conditioning in Ireland - i can only offer the following advice - clothes are obviously surplus to requirement at this stage, so take 'em off!!!

Hope that helps!!!

Try taking the window unit out of the window and taking it down to the local car wash and power-spraying it. My air did the same earlier this summer. It's worked perfectly since. Good luck...

what part of it would benefit from a power spray??

I have all three of my air conditioners running in my house and it feels like an ice box and i'd have it no other way![:D]

I have one that's crappier than the rest...no air flow.  I put a fan in front of it to blow the cold across the room.  I'm curious about the power wash too.  What part do you spray?

Our AC has been broken for 2 months.. and still waiting for the repairman to get around to it (a-friend-of-a-friend-of-a-family -member-type scenario).

So yeah.. fans and a damp rag on your neck.. lol.

Another trick I do is to take paper towels and fold them.. soak them with water and stick them in the freezer for 15 minutes :)

Edited to add: Ours is not a window unit.

When cleaning a AC make sure to clean the fan and the fins (cant remember what they are called) the fins should be clean and strait.  they work like a cars radiator if they are dirty or bent then air wont flow freely causing the unit to not work as well as it should

Turn off all the lights in the house that you can. Make sure sun resistant shades are on the windows. I have even lined my windows with aluminum foil, in an emergency, to reflect sunlight back out. Take cool showers a couple times a day. splash cold water on face and hands often. apply cold compresses to your throat, your wrists, your underarms or even your groin. that is where all the major pulse points are, to allow the blood to cool. Avoid caffeine; drink lots of lemonade.
