MOSCOW - Russian bombers have flown to the island of Guam — home to a major U.S. military base — for the first time since the Cold War in an exercise intended to show the Kremlin’s resurgent military power, an air force general said Thursday.

Two Tu-95 bombers reached Guam, a U.S. territory, this week, and their crews smiled at the pilots of the U.S. fighter jets that scrambled to intercept them, said Maj. Gen. Pavel Androsov.

“Whenever we saw U.S. planes during our flights over the ocean, we greeted them,” Androsov said. “On Wednesday, we renewed the tradition when our young pilots flew by Guam in two planes. We exchanged smiles with our counterparts who flew up from a U.S. carrier and returned home.”

They've been doing that for 50 years and this is somehow supposed to prove Russia's military power? They are just playing around. Some of those old miliary guys over there probably miss all those war games we used to play back in the day.

It's a non-story if you ask me... Russia isn't going to bomb Guam. But its nice to know our bases out there havnt gotten too laid back.

No, I don't see them bombing Guam either, I just found it interesting, especially how the Ruskies "smiled" at our pilots. [X(]

Well, they had to do SOMETHING with those ancient bombers.  Ours were just certified for a nifty new trick themselves...

EDWARDS AFB - The Air Force's fleet of B-52s, the nation's oldest active-duty aircraft, was certified Wednesday as the first that can use one of the Air Force's newest innovations: a cleaner-burning, domestically produced synthetic fuel blend.

Well at least they arn't suicidal like that Chinese pilot back in 2001. Remember that incident....

I do not think the Chinese pilot was suicidal.  He was attempting a very dangerous manuver and chrashed.

Rich:
The kewel thing is that the flight manual says they will still work on the same diesel fuel you run in your Peugeot.

its fucking with each other is what it really is.   provocation.  they open their bomb doors which is considered an act of war and just as quickly shut them.

comes down to fucking with one another "provocation" we do the same to them among lots of other stoopid shit to push the other into pulling the trigger first, and that has been going on since the invention of the airplane..

oh yeh and it does usually end with a smile or even a wave.\
