I love the whole Autumn/Winter/Holiday season, starting with Halloween and going to New Years.  But Christmas is my favorite holiday of all.

I always have a hard time coming up with suggestions for what I'd like for Christmas.  But this year, I know what I'd love....... but can't imagine asking for it........

yeah yeah yeah, but Christmas near/on the beach should be experienced at least once in a lifetime.

i'm with you on that NaughtyAngel. my christmas tree goes up as soon as possible after Thanksgiving (sometimes before if needs be). from then on, its wrapping presents, setting up a wandering manger, baking, plotting, christmas carols...

Thanksgiving down under? I didn't realize. Not to annoy, but I thought the Thanksgiving holiday was strictly a Yankee tradition (Plymouth Rock and all that...).

I've always wondered if Christmas cards and stuff down under have snow scenes and snowmen and stuff like that?

I love decorating and cooking and baking and buying gifts and the whole shebang!

lol. Sapotati, i guess i should have said something. I'm a yankee - just been here for a while. All my family, barring my kids, are back in the states. My kids adore Thanksgiving, never having had any stateside, so I do it every year. my guests vary. I usually have close aussie friends come over who appreciate the sentiment behind the holiday, and every now and then an American finds me and they come along as well. Last year a friend was diagnosed with coeliac and we just changed some of the recipes so she could enjoy it as much as we did. We had a "thankful" tree where we wrote what we were thankful for on a paper leaf, put on a eucalypt branch. that was our centrepiece, and as the fans lazily blew, the leaves would twirl for us.

yes Angel, they do have all the snow and snowmen, aalso santa and his reindeers on surfboards sporting sunglasses and tans... a lot of australians are english transplants several generations down.

Well, golly. I didn't know. I'm glad you're able to let your kids enjoy the Yankee tradition, especially the "Thankful Tree". While we never used a tree, we often did much the same thing with conversation. :)

Do you make do with the Aussie native foods or are the Yankee "originals" available there?

As for Christmas on the beach, it happens all the time in Florida.

Other than adding a roast lamb and roast potatoes and pumpkin, no it's pretty traditional. Turkey (though often one of those rolled roast things), pumpkin pie, mincemeat pie, stuffing, gravy, rutabaga!! buns, etc etc etc.

i'm hungry for a roast dinner all of a sudden.

A day with the whanau, laid back atmosphere, a nice sunny day, and the smell of hangi to make the mouth drool.

As for what I want wrapped sitting under my tree with MY name on from Santa? We'll let Angels & Demons decide that one.
