Status: offline 		yes......As an officer when I make out a report we use the term um for any underage minor.....its a standard use of the acromyn because we are not allowed to name them because of their age.

There is a difference in some places between a person who is underage and a minor. It has to do with things like the age of consent, I think. An underage minor is usally someone under the age of fifteen, or there abouts.

Status: offline 		Hiya wenchie, then *s*.  I am kind of nutty about words, and it gets me in trouble in moments. A lot of moments. On the surface it sounds redundant (unaccompanied minor) but when you deal in legal grey areas for work purposes, it makes more sense.

Hi wenchie.  I agree.  Unaccompanied makes better sense than the redundant underage minor thing.

However, I understand that while working for the Dept. of Corrections (as ppl I know have) or the Dept. of Justice (as ppl such as myself) have, in this fair Commonwealth, we have been forced to use such whacked out shorthand, I still think it's repetitive and dumb.

That's not too serious, now, is it?
