Um's and such On my knees bowing to the moms - I cannot even begin to understand what yall have been through or feel each day - hat's off. I geuss I knew on some level that I was the only chica who hangs hear that does not have um's. Just seemed there were enough little ones around and I never had a real strong urge. Sure, I have a maternal streak but working the non profit feild is a good outlet. And too, I seem compelled to choose the less traveled path. So what can I contribute to the birthing conversation - not much - what can I contribute, well, I do alright with the 7 year olds and above. I do particluarly well with the teens and college agers. I think I'm that crazy adult that ums just can't believe their parents let them hang out with and for the parents, I am the secret mole that makes sure the ums don't go wrong when the enevitable separation struggle ensues. Usually ,I have several interns or a fellow or two working with me and I so enjoy polishing them up, giving them challenges, coaching them through and then sending them out into the world all perfectly greened and fairly productive. I have a little army of former interns etc that are doing absolutely amazing world critical work...so proud and impressed. But the little ones - well, when they are sleeping and cuddly I'm good, but they are scary little buggers most of the rest of the time. I mean the overflowing diaper thingy and the way they can't entertain themselves or be left alone for even a second, the way they will lie right to your face when you can see the oreo cookie crumbs all over them and whats with the crying and whining all the time. Then there are the group umcare germs, and the smells ewwww and they always want to snuggle up when they are their most stinky and snotty. ewww again. And then the little boys always seem to be peeing in corners, behind the couch or catapulting lemons, rocks or any other things they can get their hands on - and whatever the object inevitably it goes whizzing by my head - that is usually when I skedaddle out the door with a see you later! Sure, I do kidletsit for the friends but everything is negotiated very thoroughly before hand - cause I am not having any peeing behind the couch on my watch. Interesting thing is that whenever I am alone with the little buggers they always behave like perfect angels (seems their survival intincts are quite developed) but the moment the parents return...its time for me to run for the hills again.
